Over 100 prospective students attend LSC’s Aviation Open House
More than one hundred prospective students attended LSC's annual Aviation Open House on Friday, showcasing the Professional Pilot and Aviation Maintenance Technician programs. Guests were safely spaced out and scheduled as part of smaller, socially-distanced tour groups. We were thrilled to welcome guests from throughout the Northland, and as far away as the Twin Cities metro area, central Wisconsin and even Iowa. We've also received several additional tour requests after the event, as well as several applications from those who attended. Thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a success, including our admissions and marketing teams, advisors who have been following up with many guests since their tours, and instructors, staff and student workers at the Center for Advanced Aviation who helped greet guests and provided tours. Check out the positive coverage from Fox 21.

Planning underway for upcoming open houses
Since the Manufacturing Open House in the fall of 2020 occurred right around the same time COVID numbers were spiking again and the Governor was announcing additional COVID-19 restrictions, we will be hosting a smaller, follow-up event on April 8 to give more prospective student the opportunity to learn about the programs and tour the facility. We continue to hear from several manufacturing industry partners who are concerned about growing workforce needs and workforce shortages, so we want to do all we can to help build enrollment in these programs.

We will also be hosting an Open House on main campus on May 7, which will include many programs, primarily on main campus like Liberal Arts & Sciences and Business & Industry programs not already highlighted in previous open houses. The planning is just getting underway for that event, and it's a little tricky with COVID restrictions, but essentially it will follow the same format as previous events this year. The marketing and promotion of these programs are just as valuable as the tours themselves, which can really be scheduled anytime, so the main goal is to highlight a variety of programs, especially some that haven't been highlighted through open houses yet this year. We will be looking at enrollment data and working with deans and instructors to identify priority programs and ensure we find a safe way to help promote these programs and provide tour opportunities as we continue to prepare for an exciting Fall Semester 2021. More details to come in the next few weeks, but very exciting to be hearing increased interest in tours, applications and overall enrollment for the fall.
Sign up for the COVID-19 Vaccine Connector
The State of Minnesota has launched the COVID-19 Vaccine Connector, a new tool to help Minnesotans find when, where, and how to get their COVID-19 vaccine. All state employees, who are Minnesota residents, are encouraged to sign up on the Vaccine Connector. Signing up means you will be alerted when you are eligible for vaccination, connected to resources to schedule an appointment, and provided vaccination opportunities in your area.

When you sign up, the form asks what industry you work in. Higher Education is not explicitly listed as an industry in the drop-down menu. Like most state employees, we are encouraged to select "Other/None" and put "Higher Education" or "Government" in the description box.
