LSC Board Member Minute:
Ensuring a Healthy Future for Our Youth
By LS Police Chief Travis Forbes, LSC Board Member
I became the Chief of Police for the City of Lee’s Summit in 2014. Part of what attracted me to this community was the spirit of the people who live here. They are driven to help others, and there is an understanding that when everyone succeeds, the community succeeds.

The Police Department has historically worked with Lee’s Summit CARES as a partner in continuing these traditions. I have enjoyed my time as a board member in helping to drive the mission of improving the outcomes of our youth. A community that commits resources toward helping its youth is a community that is assuring a healthy future.

Lee’s Summit CARES is an organization that recognizes the need for community involvement. Partners throughout the region contribute valuable talent to achieve the mission. The effort needed can’t be achieved alone.

The mission of my organization is to maintain the safety of the city. Helping our youth and families is a way to address root causes of crime, trauma and disorder and a way to help protect marginalized populations. It is a “natural fit” to continue our partnership with this great organization to keep our community moving forward!

Travis Forbes serves as a Lee’s Summit CARES Board member and is Chief of the Lee’s Summit Police Department.

How to Be Happy in 2022
If you want to change your life you need to change your thinking. Norman Vincent Peale states in his book, The Power of Positive Thinking, that embracing a positive mindset will help you to live a happy, productive and purposeful life. This positive change comes from an increased awareness of your internal dialogue and how these thoughts influence how you feel, your attitudes and behavior. Read on to learn ways to develop a positive mindset.
