Why support LSM? Our dedicated volunteers monitor about 10% of the lakes and ponds in Maine. There are so many more pristine bodies of water in our state that need protection!

It used to be that climate change affected primarily southern Maine lakes. Now, aquatic invasive species and algae blooms are impacting even our northernmost lakes.

Help us spread the word and train more volunteer community scientists to patrol Maine lakes by giving any size gift to LSM.

Thank you! 💙

Invasive Mussels: A Growing Threat

A recent documentary highlights the devastating impact of quagga mussels in the Great Lakes—an alarming reminder of the zebra mussel threat here in Maine. While quagga mussels aren't in our waters, zebra mussels have been found just across the border in Quebec. These invaders spread rapidly, damaging ecosystems and clogging waterways.
