Dear Liberty State Park advocates,
Last chance Thursday virtual Public Hearing to stop approval of DEP's 60 year new marina lease with 500 boat warehouse in LSP: 2.6 total acres for 70 ft high, 2.3 acre massive warehouse and 2nd building at 55 ft high!
Undemocratically, the shameless DEP Commissoner Shawn LaTourette wants the lease approved 5 days before Mikie Sherrill is Governor!
If you will be at work with very limited time to wait for your name to be called, please use the "Chat Box" option to briefly urge the State House Commission in your own strong words, to reject the lease harming sacred LSP's character, openness, and purpose" and that the next Governor should review the lease!
The Sign-In link for the State House Commission's Virtual Public Hearing this Thursday 1/15 at 10am is here on the State House Commission website or below at the QR code.
We have 3 minutes to speak (no need to download Microsoft Teams App) or by calling in. Plus the online Chat if you just have a few minutes. Later speakers should ask the organizer to keep a count of the Chats and tell the Commissioners they should take a break to read them before they vote.
The lease is an obscene sell-out of LSP in allowing the multibillion dollar marina corporation's major privatization expansion in the priceless NJ and American park, months before LSP's 50th birthday and USA's 250th!
There are other options to fund the marina bulkhead if it actually is the state's obligation, and the DEP already is moving forward with athletic fields, lease or not. An attorney wrote to the SHC that the DEP's lease process was defective.
The Friends' Jersey City Times opposition op-ed on Jan. 6 is here and if you have a subscription to the excellent, inexpensive news source it's here.
Background material including the lease's "term sheet", revealed a month after it was secretly signed, is on our marina battle page.
