Dear Liberty State Park advocates,
PLEASE JOIN THIS CRUCIAL ACTION TO STOP THE WAREHOUSE!
Please try to come by Noon on Saturday! The GPS is 1 Zapp Drive.
The DEP new 60-year marina lease would allow a 3 ACRE – 75 FT HIGH boat storage warehouse for 500 dry racks in its boatyard along LSP’s peaceful northern entrance. The commercial building would damage LSP’s character, history, openness, purpose, sacredness and integrity!
With your love of LSP, your anger at the DEP wanting to sign the corporate giveaway lease before Gov. Murphy leaves office, and any homemade signs, we'll send a strong message to Trenton!
We’ll assemble in the field right across the road from the small bathroom building (on right before free lot) and by 12:15 pm, we’ll walk together along the canal for about 5 minutes to the start of the field on the other side of the restaurants to see the marina and have a short program with the great LSP champion Senator Raj Mukherji as the main speaker!
PARKING - Please use the free parking lot at 1 Zapp Drive But if that lot gets full (ferry users often park there), please park in the Ferry Lot and tell the staffperson past the booth that you’re going to the protest for them to “validate” your license plate which the booth automatically takes a photo of, and Friends will pay your fee. When you exit, the gate bar will automatically go up. (If you enter the Ferry lot from Freedom Way side entrance, please park but go to a lot staffperson by the main entrance to tell them your plate number).
If you park in the ferry lot, the eastern side is better - closer to the Terminal Sheds - cross the road by the bathroom building to the field where you'll see people gathered and some pennant flags. If you come after our walk has started, please walk to the canal sidewalk to go to the field on the other side of the restaurants.
BICYCLISTS - Please come! It's better, as with those parking in the ferry lot, to cross Zapp Drive by the small bathroom building just past the ferry lot.
Park SHUTTLE BUS - It's the last day of the park shuttle bus. Because NJ Transit this summer shamefully blocked the Light Rail station as a shuttle bus stop, people coming on the light rail, walk about a 100 feet past the Science Center entrance for bus stop, to get to Terminal. It comes every 20 minutes.
Please see photos below of assembling field and nearby speakers' field.
The “Statehouse Commission” is due to vote in Dec. The DEP must FREEZE the lease process and let Gov Sherrill review it and hopefully she'll listen and stop the warehouse in any new lease.

Please look for updates on our facebook and instagram page!
Our marina battle page with opposition bullet points, excerpts from 645 emails in late summer, warehouse renderings, link to the proposed lease, the powerful Jersey City Times editorial etc. is here. .
The boat warehouse shouldn't exceed the half acre limit in the National Park Service 1990 Decision for this land funded for "public outdoor recreation".
As the Jersey City Times editorial "An oversized 'Home Depot' Has no Place in Liberty State Park" stated, "Next to the now-rejected “mini-Meadowlands” that the billionaire Paul Fireman tried to foist on the park two years ago, the construction of a 500-unit boat storage facility at the entrance to the park is one of the worst ideas we can imagine."
