September 2025

Dear Friend,

As we close out our fiscal year tomorrow, I wanted to thank you for your extraordinary generosity. It is because of you that Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) was able to serve more than 4,000 neighbors this year.

Together, we provided:

  • Housing, employment, and education to new neighbors rebuilding their lives.
  • Foster care and loving homes for children and youth.

For 108 years, LSSNCA has served neighbors in need during uncertain times. This legacy is only possible because of you.

Looking ahead to fiscal year 2026, LSSNCA will work towards creating sustainable revenue streams to support our mission, while also expanding services to meet the evolving needs of our community.

Thank you for being part of the LSSNCA’s work of welcoming and serving our neighbors.

With gratitude and hope,

Chief Executive Officer

This month, Reverand Anne of St. John’s Norwood Episcopal Church reflected on the partnership of her congregation with LSSNCA.

“The work of welcome is one of the most fulfilling things I have done in my professional and personal life,” Rev. Anne said. “You know what you are doing is incredibly helpful—even life-changing—for the people you are supporting.

Highlights

LSSNCA's attorneys volunteered at the AILA DC Naturalization Clinic, an event hosted by the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the Washington Council of Lawyers. The clinic offered free or low-cost legal help to lawful permanent residents applying for U.S. citizenship, including eligibility screening, form preparation, and guidance on the naturalization process.

Thank you to the Potomac High School students, who volunteered at the Resource Center, packing backpacks, restocking shelves, and organizing donations.

We look forward to strengthening this new partnership!

Get Involved

Here are three ways you can get involved with LSSNCA’s work in fiscal year 2026:

Combined Federal Campaign

  • LSSNCA is participating in the 2025 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), which starts October 1 and runs through December 31. Current and retired federal employees can donate to LSSNCA with CFC Code 78343 (or search for Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area).

Winter Coat and Toy Drive

  • From October 1 to December 20, donate a brand-new toy or a gently used coat to a neighbor in need. Donations are being collected at the Resource Center. Please check the website for our October hours of operation.

Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)

  • Consider a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) gift ahead of DAF Day, October 9. Resources set aside in DAF accounts hold incredible potential to support LSSNCA and ensure that we can continue to provide services in uncertain and challenging times.
