A Note From the Desk of Head Hockey Coach Damon Whitten
Dear Laker Hockey Alumni,

I hope this letter finds you and your families safe and healthy through these uncertain times.  I realize all of us have been affected and hope the impact has been minimal to your families.  In these trying times, it is critical that we pull together and we want to make sure Laker hockey is here to support you in any way that we can.

In the last few weeks, Lake Superior State has transitioned to online teaching and as a result, the majority of our student-athletes have left the Soo to return home.  We are conducting exit meetings online and players are working out in their backyards, living rooms, and bed rooms as we try to all adjust to the effects of Covid-19. We have a great group of players and staff committed to Laker hockey!

One way that I would like to encourage you to stay connected to our program is through social media. We are on Facebook (@Lake Superior State University Ice Hockey), Instagram (@LakeStateHockey), and Twitter (@HockeyLSSU). You are an important part of our Laker family and we want to stay connected with you!

This situation will have its effects on our program as our summer camps have just been cancelled and we are unsure about other future events that we take part in. However, we are excited about the opportunity we have to join together, support one another, and come out of this stronger as a Laker Hockey family! If you are interested in helping, you can click here to directly support Laker Hockey through Laker Club, or contact Andrew Rubinstein in the Foundation office at [email protected] or (248) 765-4527, and he can direct you to other opportunities to support the program!

I want to conclude by sharing some recent news on today's Lakers as well as news on a founding Laker.  With this year's annual banquet cancelled, we released this year's team awards via a press release earlier this week.  You can find the link here:  https://bit.ly/2X7lHTS

I also want to congratulate Rick Comley ('71) on his recognition as a Legend of College Hockey.  A well-deserved honor for Coach Comley and his numerous accomplishments in college hockey:  https://bit.ly/2UDvQGu

I look forward to seeing you in the future. Please don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything our program and I can do to help through this time. I am available to be contacted by phone (517) 242-1746 or email  [email protected] .

Stay safe and Go Lakers!

Sincerely,

Damon Whitten
