LSU Law gives back during annual PILS Fall Day of Service

On Aug. 24th, more than 150 law students donated their Saturday morning to give back to the Baton Rouge community during the Public Interest Law Society's annual Fall Day of Service.

The students divided up their service among 11 sites all across Baton Rouge. Jobs included washing the World War II fighter ship USS Kidd, working with animals at the Capital Animal Alliance, helping the Baton Rouge Food Bank, and prepping local schools for the beginning of the start of class.

Justin DiCharia and Emily Parish win Fall 2018 Flory Trial Competition
LSU Law students Justin DiCharia and Emily Parish won the Fall 2018 Ira S. Flory Mock Trial Competition on Sept. 25 in the Robinson Courtroom. The team successfully defended their client in the case judged by 19th Judicial District Court Judges Fred T. Crifasi and Donald Johnson, and East Baton Rouge Parish Chief Public Defender Michael Mitchell.

American Constitution Society, PILS hold clothing donation drive
The LSU Law American Constitution Society and Public Interest Law Society are collecting dress clothes for indigent defendants to wear to their court appearances. Donations can be delivered to the PILS office or can be arranged for pickup by contacting the American Constitution Society.

Reunion Weekend 
Reunion weekend for the LSU Law classes of 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998 and 2008 will be held Oct. 19 and 20, and online registration is now open. Contact Missi Lightfoot ( mlightfoot@lsu.edu ) if you have any questions.

Professor Ken Levy  was interviewed by WBRZ for its story  “Prosecutors: State Police conclude investigation into WBRSO Deputy.”
Professor Bill Corbett was a panelist at the Southeastern Association of Law Schools Annual Meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Aug 7. The panel topic was "U.S. Supreme Court & Legislative Update: Corporate, Labor, Civil Procedure, Administrative and Regulatory Issues."
Professor Nicholas Bryner  co-wrote an op-ed in The Conversation titled “ Trump administration and California on collision course over vehicle emissions rules .”
Professor Lécia Vicente’s  article “The Hohfeldian Concept of Share in Limited Liability Companies: A View from the Common and Civil Law Traditions” was published in the Tulane European and Civil Law Forum.
Leah Catherine Voth has a knack for writing and public speaking, which made a career in law seem like a natural fit. During her time at LSU Law, she has racked up a number of formidable accomplishments and professional experiences.

With the help of the Chancellor's Merit Scholarship, Leah Catherine has also been able to focus her time and effort on law school and not the stress of overbearing student loans.
