Academic Updates & Outcomes

Our faculty and staff enhanced the professional sales concentration to better prepare students for the demands of the modern sales landscape. New course materials address the latest research and best practices in strategy, buyer behaviors, and advanced sales technology.
Incorporating the Salesforce CRM into MKT 4478 Sales Practicum has proven to be a tremendous success. This initiative allows our students to gain experience using a world-class sales tool, enhancing their job readiness. In addition, students completed a series of Trailhead courses to ensure they fully understood the capabilities and benefits of Salesforce.

Thanks to new technical capabilities in the Jim & Laura Parr Professional Sales Lab, students can record and review role-plays and collaborate virtually. This initiative was made possible by the Parr's generosity and Dean Jared Llorens' support.
We are happy to report an increase in the number of first-year students who have declared an intent to pursue a BS Marketing with a concentration in professional sales. This trend reflects a growing recognition of the importance of sales skills in the job market and our program's value to students. Faculty and staff provide a rigorous curriculum, experiential learning opportunities, and access to industry professionals. As a result, we are confident that graduates will be well-equipped to excel in their careers and make a significant impact in the field of professional sales.
This semester, 52 students will graduate with a concentration in professional sales. We are incredibly proud of their achievements. Our graduates secured jobs at top companies such as Adobe, H&E Equipment Services, Gartner, Insight Global, Waste Pro, and Lennox, among others. We are excited to see them make a significant impact in their industries.

Research & Faculty Updates
|
|
We are currently working on research related to the efficacy and impact of various sales technologies. For example, in one research project, we empirically investigate the effect of sales content platforms, or shared digital warehouses for storing, managing, and distributing information required for sales activities, on sales opportunity conversion. As an important aspect of sales enablement, we find that sales content platform usage increases the likelihood that salespeople convert sales opportunities but does not alter the revenue gained from these converted sales opportunities. However, these effects strongly depend on the salesperson's experience, such that more experienced salespeople can exploit sales content platforms particularly well later in the sales process. We are also investigating whether the quality and quantity of tracked salesperson activity logs and notes in a customer relationship management (CRM) software predict salesperson success.
Another research project examines the state of the academic literature on sales technology, offers managerial insights, and identifies opportunities for future research.
Finally, other research looks at the implications of a sales system shock, a swift change to the business ecosystem that requires a scope of actors and firms involved in selling or buying to revise their established exchange practices substantially.

This spring, we launched the Future Champions Sales Competition, open to any first-year or sophomore who has declared an intent to pursue a BS Marketing with a professional sales concentration. Twelve students signed up for the event, with five participating in practice sessions led by sales seniors.
Congratulations to first-year student Carolyn Baker on winning the competition. She earned a $500 scholarship generously provided by Chad Olivier with the Olivier Group. We appreciate his support.
