By now many of you have heard about the new building Irish Boat Shop plans to build to replace the current building that contains the Ships' Store, Showroom and offices. I would like to bring everyone up to date on the timeline in relation to LTYC.
On October 25th, LTYC received the drawings for the news release.
On Monday, October 29th, the Board met and had IBS president Michael Esposito attend to give us a presentation and answer questions. The primary issue for LTYC is the view from the porch, which would no longer include the end of the Point or the bay. The Board asked if there were any adjustments that could be made to improve the view from the LTYC porch. Michael stated he would go to the architect and see what could be changed.
On Tuesday, October 30th, Irish Boat Shop sent the press release to their customers.
On Wednesday, October 31st, the Harbor Light published an article on the new building, including the IBS press release conceptual drawings.
On Thursday, November 1st, the Board delivered a letter to IBS reiterating our concerns from the Monday meeting.
On Friday, November 2nd, Mac Jacob (Waterfront Committee Chair), Polk Wagner (Rear Commodore), and I met with Michael Esposito and Sue Stewart to review the proposed changes. Michael provided additional information and images.
So, that’s the timeline of what has happened thus far.

Irish Boat Shop has been planning a new building to replace the old outdated building and to improve the workflow safety for a while. They have all the plans approved by the City of Harbor Springs Planning Commission. The downside is Little Traverse Yacht Club view has been reduced. Also, the dinghy storage racks and facilities for small boat dry sailing have not been included in the new drawings. IBS said they would work with LTYC on the dinghy racks and space for dry sailing, but declined to provide specifics at this time.
Your Board is working with IBS to try and keep the best view for your Club. In less than a week, a lot has transpired, and we will keep you posted on the new proposed changes as soon as we receive them from IBS.
