LUM Board Announces New Positions in 2020

Executive Director
will be announced in

In addition to a new executive director, which should be announced in early spring, the LUM
Board of Directors
has approved a few other staffing changes for 2020. Three new positions were created effective January 1
—
Executive Program Director
and
Lobbyist
(reporting to the Executive Director); and the
Assistant Director
of the
Immigration Clinic (reporting to the Immigration Clinic director).

Pablo Malavenda, Executive Program Director
|
Not to be confused with the "executive director,"
Pablo Malavenda is the new
Executive
Program
Director
(reporting to the Executive Director). In addition to his duties directing
Jubilee Christmas, LUM communications & social media, IT support, database management and website development, Pablo will now also supervise the directors of the following LUM programs:
Community Thanksgiving,
Emergency Shelter/
Winter Warming Station,
Good Samaritan Program,
ID Clinic,
Youth Programs,
Food Pantry &
Tax Assistance Program.
Originally from Meriden, Connecticut, Pablo now lives in West Lafayette with Kristin, his wife of 23 years, and their children, Maximilian (21) and Zoe (19), both of whom are attending Purdue. They are members of St. Thomas Aquinas, West Lafayette. Pablo graduated from Platt High School, earned a bachelor's degree in Organizational/ Industrial Psychology and a Master's in Higher Education Administration, both from the University of Connecticut, and has more than 15 years of supervisory experience.
With LUM, Pablo directed
Hunger Hike from 2014-2019 and
LUM Follies from 2015-2019. Pablo shared that, "
I am excited to work with the talented team of LUM program directors. Over the years I have witnessed many great things but also know that together we can always do better and achieve more."
In his free time, Pablo enjoys sharing books with Kristin, going to concerts with Max, being the best Dance Dad to Zoe, as well as cooking for and traveling with all three.
LUM is fortunate to have someone with Pablo's experience to join the management team at LUM.

Patti O'Callaghan, LUM Lobbyist

Patti O’Callaghan
returns as the new
LUM
Lobbyist
(reporting to the Executive Director). She has many years of experience advocating for Indiana families including serving as the LUM Social Justice director for more than 11 years, as well as being a founding board member of three agencies advocating for local children.
Patti grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and currently lives in West Lafayette with Mark Diekman, her husband of 42 years. They are members of the Chapel of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, West Lafayette. They have two grown sons, Casey & Brian, both professors, and five grandchildren, ages three, five, five, seven & eight. Patti graduated from St. Agnes Seminary High School and earned a BS in Biology from New York University and a Master’s from Colorado State in Reproductive Physiology. She served two terms on the West Lafayette City Council and two terms on the West Lafayette Community School Board of Trustees.
Patti is excited about her new role with Lafayette Urban Ministry because it gives her an opportunity to create lasting positive change for the families in Tippecanoe County and the entire State of Indiana.
She shares that, she is “
looking forward to working with our state representatives and senators to give a voice to Indiana children and create a better future for Indiana families.
”
In her free time, Patti enjoys playing Pickle-ball,
sharing books with her book club friends,
and most of all, spending time with her family. LUM is fortunate to have someone with Patti’s passion and talent re-join the LUM team.

Monica Casanova, Immigration Clinic Asst. Director

Monica Casanova
is the new
Assistant Director
of the LUM
Immigration Clinic (reporting to the Immigration Clinic director)
.
She grew up and lives in Lafayette with Neal Starkey, her husband, and their two daughters, Ella and Violet. Monica graduated from Jefferson High School, earned a BA in Education from Purdue University and two Master’s degrees in Library Science & Public History from Indiana University/Purdue University

, and is the vice president of the Greater Lafayette Immigrant Allies.

, Monica is excited about her new role with Lafayette Urban Ministry. She shared that, “

In her free time, Monica enjoys reading, watching movies & TV, listening to music — and most importantly spending time with her family and supporting her children in their activities. LUM is fortunate to have Monica join the LUM team.
