In this edition of Wes's Weekly Wrap Up, Wes Tillett, LUM executive director, shares a letter from a LUM volunteer with an appeal to invest in local families in need. ARACELI Martinez is a LUM spring intern working with the Financial Assistance Program, Food Pantries, Homeless Services, Tax Assistance and various fundraising events.

Araceli grew up in Elkhart, IN, with her parents and four siblings. She currently lives in West Lafayette, where she is in her fourth year at Purdue University. Araceli is enrolled in the Public Health (4+1) combined Master program. She graduated from NorthWood High School (Nappanee, IN) and is a first-generation college student.

Araceli encourages others to volunteer or pursue an internship with LUM, stating that,

“What I enjoy the most about LUM is the ability to work in a collaborative and compassionate environment that aims towards improving the lives of those in the community. The variety of programs offered at LUM gives me the opportunity to explore my interests.”

Purdue Rowing Team hosts Row-A-Thon supporting the LUM Good Samaritan Fund on THIS Saturday, February 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Tippecanoe Mall, Lafayette, IN. Each member of the co-ed team aims to row 30,000 meters in three hours on indoor rowing machines to raise funds for LUM. Some will row 42,195 meters, which is a marathon (26.2 miles). Donations can be made online (mention "Rowathon" in additional comments section), in person at the event, or by mail to Purdue Crew Club, 355 N. Martin Jischke Dr., West Lafayette, IN 47907. Funds raised will be evenly split between LUM and the Purdue Crew Team. Join us for this charitable event and support the community!
