Generous Gifts to LUM in a Time of Crisis
LUM Client Donates "Needed Items"
Recently a donation of " needed items " was dropped off at the LUM Office with this note, " Good morning. I would like to help more, but my resources are limited. My heart is happy when I can give a little of what I have. If we all gave just a little of what we have the world would be better. Have a great day. God bless you. "

This donation came from an individuals who is a recent client with the LUM Immigration Clinic . She and her family donated many of the items that LUM urgently needs now, including paper towels, toilet paper, facial tissues, latex gloves, bleach, spray disinfectant, bathroom cleaner, garbage bags, coffee, coffee filters, and coffee sweetener. LUM is grateful and moved by this thoughtful gift from this special family.
Grace Lutheran - Brown Bag Shelter Meals
When the Indiana Stay-At-Home Order started, several groups canceled their shelter meals. That's when the members of Grace Lutheran Church (Lafayette) stepped up and began providing "brown bag" dinners to fill in the gaps. Their generosity has guaranteed that our shelter guests have had a meal each night. This is the kind of creativity and support that was needed to get through the first phase of the COVID-19 crisis.

If you, your church, your company or your family wishes to Prepare a Meal for the LUM Emergency Shelter, your options are as follows:
  • Prepare & Serve | Prepare & Drop-off
  • Donate the Cost of Meal
  • Donate Food for a Meal

THANK YOU to all of the families, churches and groups that provided meals these past few weeks.
LUM Receives $4,000 for COVID-19 Needs
Community Foundation Awards Grant to LUM
In addition the COVID-19 Response Fund grant, The Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette has awarded to LUM a " Rapid Response Grant " for $4,000 . This grant was created for area nonprofit organizations, like LUM, to address the growing and immediate needs brought on by the COVID-19 crisis and the Indiana Stay-At-Home Order. This grant will allow LUM to address the immediate basic needs of the community right now. The funds are already being used to feed those in need and help local families suffering hardships, through the LUM Good Samaritan Program & Protein Food Pantry . LUM is appreciative to The Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette for their leadership in supporting local families through the programs at LUM. LUM Board & Staff - Adapting to COVID-19
First Ever - LUM Board "Video" Meeting
Last night, the LUM Board of Directors held their monthly meeting using video conferencing. The agenda was distributed along with a code to "Join the Meeting" online. The remote meeting was productive, albeit unorthodox, and successfully connected and engaged everyone involved. Joan Low, LUM board president, led the meeting; and Wes Tillett attended and contributed for the first time as the LUM executive director. Pictured are the LUM board & staff members who participated. This is yet another example of how LUM is adapting to the COVID-19 crisis because LUM is determined to continue serving local families and children in need.
LUM Protein Food Pantry Needs Your Support
Thanks to a dedicated crew of volunteers, the LUM Protein Food Pantry has remained open during the COVID-19 crisis. Within a few short weeks, LUM has developed stricter health & safety protocols, moved food distribution outside, set up social-distancing check in lines, set up portable sinks for hand washing, and equipped our staff & volunteers with gloves & masks.

The LUM Protein Food Pantry has been well received by local families in need. Here are Four Ways that you and your group can support the LUM food pantry:
