The Future Philanthropists Program, a giving group of the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation with participants from OPRF, Trinity, Fenwick, and St. Ignatius high schools, have decided to do their part to help relieve the suffering of women, children, and the elderly who have lost virtually everything due to the Russian invasion of their homeland. In partnership with Pete’s Market in Oak Park, they have organized a drive to collect donations of personal care items, baby products, medical supplies, and daily living needs. Shoppers will be encouraged to buy and donate such items, which will be collected by Future Philanthropists at Pete's Market. We urge you to participate in this event by shopping at Pete’s between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00pm on April 14 and 15 and between 9:00am and 9:00pm on April 16. Here is a list of items that are needed. The students have made arrangements for pallets of these products to be air-transported to Warsaw for direct distribution to refugees on the ground there.

Female activists and scientists have changed the course of American environmentalism, as highlighted in the latest LWV Berkeley Heights, New Providence, and Summit, New Jersey Feminist Four Newsletter. On April 22nd, when we celebrate Earth Day, let’s also celebrate the remarkable achievements made by four American women, Ynes Mexia, Rachel Carson, Marjory Stoneman Douglass, and Quannah Chasinghorse, to protect our planet.
