LWV OPRF August 20 Week in Preview

Do you want to register voters this election season? There is an opportunity to receive Deputy Registrar training on Wednesday, August 29, at the LaGrange Public Library, 10 W. Cossitt, LaGrange. The training goes from 7:00-8:00pm and you must sign up ASAP. LWV LaGrange is sponsoring this training. There may not be another training scheduled before the November election, so contact Joyce Williams today with your name and address to be included.
Volunteer Opportunities
In future weekly emails, we will be describing our working committees and how you can become involved. Knowing what each committee does and it's time commitment, helps our members make the right choice in how to spend their precious volunteer time. Two new opportunities that are not necessarily tied to a committee are open for help.
Opportunity 1: Do you attend our events? Do you sometimes jot down notes for your own reference later? Would you be willing to put those notes in a short written recap of the event that would be posted in our weekly emails so members that could not attend know what happened? We have video taped many of our presentations so that members that can't attend still can obtain the information. But those events that are not videoed could use a write up. Contact Peggy Kell if you would be willing to do one or two write ups.
Opportunity 2:  The LWVIL Issues Specialists for Gun Violence Prevention (GVP) would like to welcome at least one Oak Park/River Forest League member to join the google group on GVP.  This is a closed group available only to LWVIL members.   The purpose of the Group is to share continually updated information on this issue at the federal, state and local levels, highlight the work that the IL League is doing, promote partnership with the IL Coalition on GVP and encourage group members to energize their local Leagues for action.
The goal is to have at least one member from each of the local Leagues in IL so we can all benefit from our varied experiences with this issue in our local communities. Access to the internet is needed. Contact Marge Massarello with your interest.
State of the Villages 2019
"Let's Party" was the theme of our 2017 State of the Villages Fundraiser. Well it's that time again to start organizing our 2019 biennial fundraiser. Choosing  a theme, location, date, and agenda needs to start now. This important event helps fund all the activities that our League schedules for two years. And it needs some committee members to start the planning. Remember, this event only happens every other year. The party is tied to the April municipal elections, so local candidates are invited. Will you step up to help? Contact either Kathy Balk, Mary Haley, or Joan Petertil with your interest.
Please welcome new members Maureen Crotty, Anne Smart, and Sharon and Alec Bloyd-Peshkin. Glad to have you all on board!
