Membership Renewal

We have about 40 members who still need to renew their membership. Work on the directory will start soon and to be included, please renew now. Go online to pay with a credit card or to choose to send in a paper renewal form with a check. The dues are $70 per person and will make sure we continue to “empower voters and defend democracy”!

Women's History Center

The Chicago Women's History Center is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to documenting, preserving, and sharing resources for the study of Chicago women's history. CWHC is a vital network of scholars, teachers, archivists, oral historians, librarians, public historians, media makers, activists, and others interested in the power of Chicago women's history to inform the present and inspire the future. To read more about their many projects and to save the date for their Thursday, October 27 50th Anniversary Celebration, go here.

InEquality

August 26, the anniversary of the certification of the 19th amendment, is often known as Women's Equality Day. Yet with our voting and reproductive rights under attack, women are still not equal in our democracy.

This year, we're observing Women's Inequality Day and demanding that our representatives:

1. Pass voting rights legislation;

2. Add the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution; and

3. Restore reproductive freedom to women and those who can become pregnant.

Join us in taking a stand and sharing #WomensInequalityDay across your social networks. We may not yet be equal, but together we can't be ignored.

NOW

Helping people access the abortion care they need will require new and creative approaches. To learn how to legally spread information about self-managed abortion, the Illinois Chapter of the National Organization of Women will host a Zoom meeting on Self-Managed Abortion: Safe & Supported(SASS) Workshop. This workshop will be held this Wednesday, August 24, at 7:00pm. You can register for this event here.

The information shared at this meeting was originally presented in a seminar at the National NOW Conference last month. Cindy Wolfe Boynton, who is the president of Connecticut NOW and a National NOW board member from the Northern District, will lead this Zoom workshop.

The goal of the workshop is to provide information regarding medical abortion, as opposed to giving advice or encouraging people to perform an illegal act. By providing information only, presenters are protected from being prosecuted for inciting, participating in, or being an accessory to a crime.

While in many states in the U.S. it is not legal for a person to do their own abortion without a physician, it is NOT a crime to share information that is posted on the World Health Organization (WHO) website and other websites. Please help us build community among people interested in self-managed, safe and supported abortion (including abortion pills) and learn critical information that you can share with others.
