LWV OPRF Annual Meeting

This Thursday, June 2, at 6:00pm, LWV OPRF will hold its 97th Annual Meeting. Here is the meeting packet, which includes the 2022-23 budget, program, slate, and Hazel Hanson award winner. Read the proposed Bylaws changes here. The packet and the proposed Bylaws changes are also posted on our website. This will be a virtual meeting. We need a quorum of members to conduct business, so please register for the Annual Meeting here. In addition to our business meeting, we will have Laura Davis, LWV IL Environmental Specialist, LWV Cook County Director, and LWV Palatine member, speaking to us about the Cook County Forest Preserve Referendum that will be on the November ballot. We hope all members will review the packet and Bylaws before the meeting to be prepared to vote on the business items of our meeting.

Election Monitors

LWV OPRF is monitoring the Mills Park Tower Resident Council Election on Wednesday, June 15. Because we are a non-partisan organization, we are the perfect choice to run a fair and organized election. Though other Leagues across the country have run elections for various resident boards, this will be our first time. Mills Park Tower is a HUD building and must follow set standards in establishing a resident council. We are happy to run this election to ensure that process is followed. We need some volunteers to help with the election between the hours of Noon and 6:00pm. Time slots are for two hours and masks must be worn in the building. Please sign up for a time slot using this link. Contact Peggy Kell if you have any questions.

Early Voting

Early Gubernatorial Primary Election voting will start on June 13 at the Oak Park Village Hall, 123 Madison, from 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Saturday. Sunday hours for June 19 and 26 will be 10:00am-4:00pm. Early voting will continue till June 27. You can also do grace-period voter registration during early voting hours but two pieces of valid identification is required to register.

LWV's Illinois Voters Guide is ready to help with one stop shopping for all your voting information. Learn about candidates, get election reminders, find your polling place, and save your ballot to take with you to the polls. Share this link with anyone who lives in Illinois.

National Popular Vote

Join the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin at 6:30pm on June 7 to learn more about the National Popular Vote! In the first of four webinars, “The National Popular Vote: What, Why and How?," Eileen Reavey from National Popular Vote will teach us just that--the what, why and how of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. There will be time at the end to take audience questions. Register here for the June 7 webinar.

Eileen co-founded the grassroots advocacy group campaigning for Oregon to pass the National Popular Vote bill in 2016. She now works to apply those organizing lessons in other states as National Popular Vote’s National Grassroots Director. She works on building momentum and support for this issue nationwide, and on training volunteers to be organizers and informed advocates for the cause.

For those who cannot make the live events in this series, the recordings will be posted to the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin’s YouTube page and website. Follow the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin on social media to stay up-to-date on future events.

The three additional webinars in this series include:

The National Popular Vote: Dispelling the Partisan Myth at 6:30 p.m. on June 29

The National Popular Vote: Other States’ Stories at 6:30 p.m. on July 27

National Popular Vote: Getting It Done in Wisconsin at 6:30 p.m. on September 14
