New Voters
Our crew of Deputy Registrars worked at various sites from August to October registering voters. At elementary schools, colleges, the Food Pantry, Housing Forward, and the YMCA, these ladies spent many hours encouraging citizens to register to vote. Though our numbers weren't high, their enthusiasm was ever present as they engaged with prospective voters. Many thanks to the following DRs who registered over 85 new voters: Kathy Balk, Marilyn Cantisano, Maureen Crotty, Leigh Eicher, Candace Enockson, Beverly Graham, Mary Haley, Roberta Jannsen, Tara Joyce, Peggy Kell, Lois Thiessen Love, Ann Marohn, Judith McDevitt, Terri Powell, Margaret Prechel, Barbara Smith, and Linda Valentine. They did our League proud!

The Environmental Committee Co-Chairs,  Beverly Graham and Marsha Borders, Stephen Morales, Commissioner of the OP Environment and Energy Commission, and Village Sustainability Coordinators of both Oak Park and River Forest were the guest speakers at Second Tuesday on October 9th.  We discussed our efforts to "Shedd the Straw" and agreed to work on changing attitudes in both communities.  We encourage our membership to patronize the following establishments and thank them for not providing straws that are not requested.  If they are not practicing this policy, please let us know; but above all, please be positive in your approach, regardless of your experience."   Another suggestion:  When you order carry out food, ask them not to include plastic utensils.
