Referendum Presentations

Want to learn more about the two referendum questions that will be on the Oak Park November ballot? Then join us at 7:00pm on Monday, October 21, in the Veterans Room of the Oak Park Library, 834 Lake Street, Oak Park. There will be a presentation on the non-binding redistricting referendum question and the binding ranked choice voting question. FairVote and CHANGE Illinois will be there to share information on these two topics and answer any questions you may have. Free and open to the public, let your friends and neighbors know about this opportunity.

The Environment Committee will meet on Wednesday, October 16, 6:00pm, at the home of Beverly Graham, 839 Fair Oaks, Oak Park. Discussion will focus on identifying activities and events for the coming program year. If you have an idea we'd love to hear it! Contact Marsha Borders or Beverly Graham with questions.

Mis/Disinformation

On Wednesday, October 23, at 7:00pm, LWV IL will have a presentation titled "Disinformation and the Media in the 2024 Election." In this presentation, award-winning journalist and media executive Eric Schurenberg explores the current news and election landscape. You'll come away with an understanding of how social media and digital economics shape today's information environment, how partisan actors exploit our all-too-human vulnerability to misinformation, and how those economic and psychological forces have shaped the coverage of this presidential campaign. The goal: To help you think critically, despite the heightened passion and noise, about the decision you'll make on November 5. Register for this free event here.

MWRD Sustainability Summit

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District’s 12th Annual Sustainability Summit is set for Tuesday, October 29 at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant from 10:00am to Noon and is open to the public. Presenters will provide information about green infrastructure and sustainable landscaping techniques to mitigate flooding and enhance water quality. You can register for this free event here.

Members of the new Stickney WRP Community Partnership Council, which consists of local residents dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Stickney/Cicero area, will be introduced and awards that highlight the best examples of innovations in green infrastructure and sustainable landscaping practices will be presented.
