Oak Park joins the villages of Forest Park and River Forest in issuing a celebratory proclamation recognizing our League's 100th birthday! Join us tonight, Monday, September 16, at 7:00pm at the Oak Park Village Hall, 123 Madison, Oak Park, to celebrate. The agenda is here.

On Tuesday, September 24, at 6:30pm at the Main Oak Park Library, the LWV OPRF Fall Kick-off will discuss the implications of mis/dis-information. The panel will include the leaders of the LWVIL mis/dis task force. Joining them will be Michael Spikes, Ph.D., lecturer and director of Teach for Chicago Journalism at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. This Tuesday morning at the River Forest Library and Thursday evening at the Write Inn in Oak Park there are openings for volunteers to register citizens. Explore Skokie Lagoons, a Cook County Forest nature preserve in Glencoe and Winnetka, with Gary Morrissey, an Illinois Master Naturalist, on Thursday, September 26, from 10:00-11:30am. This naturalist-led walk will have an optional kayak/canoe paddle at 11:30am. A paddle fee will be charged. You will meet at the Tower Road parking lot. Register at Info@cookcounty.org.

The LWV OPRF Centennial Gala is on October 20 at 5:30 pm at the 19th Century Club ballroom in Oak Park. All members should have received their invitation to the 100^th year event last week! We will take time to celebrate the League’s momentous centennial with cocktails, classical guitarist entertainment, program, slide show, and our League’s history exhibits. Join honorary co-chairs River Forest President Catherine Adduci, Forest Park Mayor Rory Hoskins, and Oak Park President Vicki Scaman as we celebrate 100 years of our League being a leader in registering voters, sponsoring candidate forums, advocating for issues such as increased early education and public school funding, and presenting workshops on critical civic issues. Stop in to see the displays on our League’s history at the Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park libraries and at the Oak Park River Forest Museum. The Forest Park library exhibit will be moved to the 19^th Century Club by October 10 for our Coffee and Conversation program and then will be up through October 20.

Oak Park/River Forest.

One hundred years ago, a group of citizens in Oak Park and River Forest formed a chapter of the recently formed National League of Women Voters to help women carry out their new responsibilities in casting ballots. They warmed to the mission, paving the way for women to serve on juries, promote voter education, and beautify the neighborhood. Today our chapter is one of the oldest and largest in the state of Illinois. Please join us for an interesting discussion on the 100-year history of our League activities.
