SB1090 (House Elections on Tuesday 3.12) --
Using a specific resolution, the a county board of supervisors is permitted to authorize the county officer in charge of elections to use emergency voting centers under specified circumstances. The
board is required to specify in the resolution the location of the emergency voting centers and the hours of operation
.
Requires a sworn affidavit for emergency voting
.
OPPOSE:
Even if the "affidavit" is changed to "affirmation" as promised, the bill has no logical rationale, and as such is discriminatory and oppressive.
and
HB2039 (3rd reading on Monday;
after that contact your Senator
) --
Requires the county recorder to report to the Secretary of State (SOS) and post on the recorder's website the number of people who are registered to vote using the state voter registration form, who have not provided proof of citizenship. AND after each general election, the recorder must post on the recorder's website the number of ballots cast by those eligible to vote for federal offices only.
OPPOSE
:
Though this is not the most horrible bill out there, it is a form of
institutional harassment in the guise of data collection
, motivated by the continuing suspicion that people are voting fraudulently.
HB2616 (in House COW) --
Makes it a class I misdemeanor for a person to be paid or receive anything of value for registering a person to vote, other than an employee of a political party.
OPPOSE
:
This is blatant
voter suppression
. As currently written, it would keep even government employees (e.g. at the MVD and DES) from registering clients, as required to by federal law!
Townsend had promised an amendment, but we've not seen it yet
.
SB1054 (in Rules, then House floor) --
As amended, requires a 5 day “cure period” for those with disqualified ballots in a federal election (3 days for other elections). Allows early ballots to be tallied beginning no earlier than 14 days before the election rather than 7 days before the election.
SUPPORT
!
Provides a
chance for people's ballots to be counted
.
SB1072
(in Rules, then House floor)
-- Requires ID for PEVL voters who receive a ballot at polling location and allows an elector to update voter registration information at an on-site early voting location in a manner prescribed by the Secretary of State’s Instruction and Procedures Manual.
OPPOSE
:
As long as someone is signing an envelope, someone shouldn’t have to provide ID.
