President's Letter
Happy President's Month and Valentine's Day

It was a great day for the Women's March. The sun was shining, the crowd was swelling to 300,000. We marched with our signs and banners with many other Leaguers.  Michelle Mbekeani-Wiley, (LWV-OPRF) representing the League of Women Voters,
gave an inspirational speech. (It is available for viewing on our Facebook page.) Thank  you, Michelle.

If you are interested in participating in a discussion about critical global issues facing us,  Great Discussions is for you.The February discussions include Waning of Pax  Americana and Russian Foreign Policy. Please see details of dates, times and locations  on our web page.

Please join us at Second Tuesday, February 13. Pamela Mahn, Director of Senior  Services for Oak Park and River Forest Townships will present: Senior Services in Our  Villages.

Drinks & Dialogue gathering, Thursday, February 15, at Skrine's will need your input  regarding our program positions and what is ahead for 2018-19. Please read pages  8-10 in your purple directory so you are ready to be an active participant in this
discussion. A committee is meeting prior to D&D to start developing ideas and clarifying  positions. We need all of you. What is important to you as we move our League  forward? If you have any questions or ideas that you want to discuss prior to the  meeting please contact me.

Are you ready to take on a more active role in the League? The Nominating Committee
needs volunteers to help contact members to complete our slate for next year. We need
you to take a position on the Board or Chair a Committee. Please contact Kathy Balk or  Joan Petertil to let them know you are ready to serve or they will be contacting you.

LWV Cook County is also reaching out for volunteers to serve on the their Nominating
Committee and needs a Secretary. Let me know if you are ready to volunteer.

I hope many of you are planning to attend the Issues Briefing on Saturday, February  10th in Chicago. See the LWVIL website for details. We have allocated money in the  budget for some financial support. Send your receipt to Sarah Shirk by Friday, February  23rd.

Peggy  Kell is scheduling voter registration events. Please volunteer to register these new  voters.

We need volunteers to assist us with Facebook and Instagram. Please contact Sarah  Shirk to volunteer.

Second Tuesday
Pamela Mahn, Oak Park and River Forest Township Senior Service Director, will present at Second Tuesday, February 13, at the Nineteenth Century Club, 178 Forest Ave., Oak Park. The topic will be "Scope, Gaps, Trends, and Challenges". Join the discussion from 9:30-11:00 am. 
Drinks & Dialogue
On Thursday, February 15, from 5:30-7:00pm, members are invited to discuss programming  focus at Drinks & Dialogue . What is important to you and what should LWV OPRF work on for 2018-19?  Join us at Skrine Chops House, 7230 Madison, Forest Park. We need your ideas and input.
Environment Annoucements 
Just a reminder that the Resilient Communities Forum is scheduled for Wednesday, January 31, from 7:00-8:30 pm at the Nineteenth Century Club. 
RSVP needed.

The meeting of the LWV OPRF Environment Committee will be Monday, February 5, at 6:00pm. at Beverly Graham's house. All interested members are invited to attend. Contact Beverly for more information.
Great Decisions

LWV IL Issues Briefing
LWV IL Issues Briefing is scheduled for Saturday, February 10, from 9:30am-4:00pm. New members, this is a great way to learn more about LWV positions and interact with members from throughout the state.  Our League has budgeted money to cover the registration costs which are $60 for the whole day, $30 for am only, or $35 for pm only. Such a deal! Act now and register at lwvil.
