January 2018
President's Letter
Happy New Year!
I hope you are staying warm during this frigid weather although the snow is beautiful.

I can't believe that we are halfway through the 2017-18 League year. Several  opportunities are available to you this January. I hope you will join us.
The Second Tuesday gathering on January 9th will feature Rob Breymaier, Executive  Director of the Oak Park Regional Housing Center to discuss "Affordable Housing: How  Are We Doing?"  On Saturday, January 13th we will be meeting for our Membership Coffee at the  Township Senior Center at 10:00. Heather Cunningham will present "Advocacy and  Issues - where we stand, how we develop positions, types of advocacy and ways to get
involved in League work". Please join us and bring a friend.

Are you planning on joining us for the "March to the Polls" downtown Chicago on  Saturday, January 20th? How can we march without signs? Get your creative ideas  flowing for two meet-ups. We will meet at my house, 1112 S. Humphrey, Oak Park on  Thursday, January 11 at 1:00 to begin the signage. Please call me at 708-383-7032 if  you can join us or just show up and be ready to work. All material will be provided but  you are welcome to add to our supplies. We will do the final signs at Drinks &  Dialogue at Skrine Chops House on Thursday, January 18 at 5:30. I hope you can join us for one or  both of these events and also the March on Saturday January 20th . More information on
the March will be available soon. Please contact  Marsha Border with any questions you may have about the March.

Starting in January, we will be meeting to review the LWVOPRF Program Positions and  Political Activity Policy as stated in our Directory. Do you have ideas to move our  League forward, give us a focus and direction? Please contact me if you are ready to
help make a difference in our future. Heather Cunningham's presentation at the  Members Coffee will give us ideas on how to proceed.

Save the date for the LWVIL Issues Briefing in Chicago on Saturday, February 10 from
9:30- 4:00. Check the calendar for details.
The 2018 National Convention is convening in Chicago from Thursday, June 28 - July 1

begin soon.

We need volunteers to assist us with our Facebook and Instagram pages. Please contact  Sarah Shirk  if you would like to join the Communications team.

Congratulations to Alyssa Ralston on her job promotion. Sadly she will have to step
down as the Board Secretary. Happily, Johan Walsh has agreed to fill the position for the  remainder of the year. Thank you Johan.

Looking forward to seeing many of you at these events.
