Lakewood Yacht Club was Well Represented at the 2020 Laser Gulf Coast Championships
Seabrook, TX: Lakewood Yacht Club's youth sailors represented twenty-five percent of the entire fleet of racers at the 2020 Laser Gulf Coast Championships hosted by the Texas Corinthian Yacht Club on Oct. 3-4, 2020.

A total of 55 sailors from Florida, California and Louisiana attended the championship event. LYC sent 14 youths to this regatta, which was only the second nationally ranked event organized after the pandemic started in March.

Light-medium winds were a factor, but the race committee was able to accomplish six races for all the fleets.

In the Laser 4.7 fleet, seven sailors represented Lakewood Yacht Club. The overall event was dominated by Stephen Momeier, who scored five bullets out of six races. Ava Anderson did a fantastic job as well, finishing 3rd overall and Top Girl. LYC racers Kate Dennis, Hiraku Masumoto, Mathieu Brown, Drew Gourley, and Kynes Cabrera all placed in the Top 10.

Another seven Lakewood sailors took part in the Laser Radial fleet. Scott Mather led the team with a 5th position overall, showing excellent skills amongst stiff competition. Narrowly missing the Top 10, was William Baker, who finished 11th. Jacob Brown, Ethan Polsen, and Michael Morse also finished in the Top 20, and Mabsout and Zachary Brown finished in the Top 25.
