LYHA Customer Bulletin
The nights are drawing in and autumn's definitely here. Our Estates Team is finishing their grass cutting and will soon be concentrating on clearing the leaves and end of year pruning. Paths and car parks are our priority when it comes to clearing leaves, but grass areas will be cleared by the end of the year.

These Customer Bulletins are a chance for us to share our latest activity and update you about our plans. If you have any comments or suggestions, please contact: georgina.thompson@lyha.co.uk
Leeds & Yorkshire Housing Association regains its G1 V1 rating

We are very pleased to announce that LYHA has regained its G1 V1 rating - this is the highest governance and financial viability rating awarded by the social housing regulator.

Our customers' safety in their homes is our top priority and over recent months we have carried out a full review of our approach, invested in an extensive programme of works and improved our internal controls, ensuring we are fully compliant in all aspects.

The new report reflects the change in the culture of the organisation, led by a new and revitalised management team with a genuine desire to ensure that the safety, rights and best interests of our customers are always first and foremost in what we do .“

New forest school for local school children

Last week saw the unveiling of the new Forest Classroom we've created for pupils at Horsforth Featherbank Primary School.

We have worked with conservation volunteers to transform a previously overgrown site next to our Rosemary Thompson House scheme, in Horsforth, into a fantastic outside learning space, complete with a classroom made of logs, a fire pit, structures to make dens, a see-saw, climbing frame and bug hotel. It will be called ‘Featherbank Forest’ and will be used to deliver learning for all pupils in a natural, outdoor setting. Needless to say it's got a b ig thumbs up from the kids and is an excellent example of our desire to support community initiatives in the areas around your homes. You can read the full press release here.
LYHA in the news.... we've also had some really positive media coverage in recent weeks about both these stories - our G1 regrade and the Featherbank Forest project - including a piece on BBC Look North. Please follow this link for a round-up of the coverage .

Gas Safety Week

It was national Gas Safety Week a couple of weeks ago, which aimed to remind us all about the importance of staying safe. Flats with balconies and fire safety

There are a number of our homes which have balconies. If a fire breaks out on a balcony it can spread much faster than inside a building, as there is an unlimited supply of oxygen and fire can be spread by the wind.

If your home has a balcony, please ensure you read this customer factsheet which we have compiled for your safety.

As you may have heard in the news, Whirlpool is currently recalling a number of their tumble dryer models manufactured between 2004 and 2015 which are branded as either Hotpoint, Indesit, Creda, Swan and Proline (all part of the Whirlpool brand).

If a visitor to Yorkshire only had time to visit one place in Yorkshire, where should they go?
It's got to be Leeds of course. There's such a variety of things going on: it's a great city.

Job: Customer Advisor

How long have you worked at LYHA?
Nearly 20 years.

What is your favourite part of the job?
Advising our customers and building up a rapport with them.

Where would be your ideal day out in Yorkshire?
I would spend my day in a small village near Wetherby, called Kearby, where there is a fantastic pub and would you believe a ‘hidden’ beach at the side of the river, great for relaxing – it's beautiful and so peaceful.

If a visitor to Yorkshire only had time to visit one place in Yorkshire, where should they go?
There are so many lovely areas in Yorkshire - Fewston & Swinsty reservoir, near Otley/Harrogate are beautiful or Norwood Edge for scenery.
And finally..............
