La Jolla Symphony and Chorus Announces the appointment of
Dr. Arian Khaefi as Sally & Einar Gall Chorus Director

LA JOLLA, CALIF. (2022-2023 Season – Rising)

The La Jolla Symphony & Chorus is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Arian Khaefi as the Sally & Einar Gall Chorus Director. After serving a highly successful year as interim Chorus Conductor, Dr. Arian Khaefi has now accepted the permanent position as LJS&C's Chorus Director, beginning July 1. Prior to his appointment at San Diego State University in September 2019 as Director of Choral Studies, Dr. Khaefi served as director of choral activities at Fullerton College and at Towson University in Maryland. He holds D.M.A. and M.M. degrees in conducting from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and the University of California-Los Angeles, respectively. An active member of the American Choral Directors Association, Chorus America, and the National Collegiate Choral Organization, Dr. Khaefi is also the current Vice President of the Choral Consortium of San Diego.

“Arian’s timely appointment is truly fortuitous for the LJS&C chorus. After two years of COVID-related cancellations and transitions in our artistic leadership, his highly skilled, enthusiastic, and passionate approach is just what is needed to infuse the chorus with new energy and purpose,” said Dr. Stephanie Weaver Yankee, Executive Director.

“There really isn’t much the Chorus can’t take on. At a time when practitioners in the field are thinking more critically than ever about the social impact of programming, I am thrilled to be working with an organization that has championed innovative and diverse works throughout its more than sixty-five years of history. This is a dream position, and I am eager to work with the Chorus as we begin a new chapter of brilliant choral music-making at the national level,” said Dr. Khaefi.

“We are delighted Arian has accepted this appointment as we emerge from the challenging pandemic years. He has impressed us both as a teacher and as a conductor, an inspiring combination for our intergenerational community chorus,” Betty Mc Manus, President of the LJS&C Association, said.
Dr. Khaefi’s appointment begins as we launch our 2022-2023 season entitled “Rising,” a series of inspirational and transformational programs created collaboratively by Dr. Khaefi and Steven Schick, LJS&C Music Director Emeritus.
