This Week at Christ Church
La Posada - Canceled
Pre-registration was slow
For whatever reason, we have not had the response that we had hoped for and so we've decided to cancel this year's La Posada event scheduled for this Sunday, December 15. We hope to have the robust celebration this evening deserves, next year!

Healing Service Relocation
This Thursday, December 12
This week's 10:00 a.m Healing Service will take place in Hinde Hall due to rehearsals for the CCDS Christmas program that evening,

CCDS Christmas Programs
Christmas Around the World
This Thursday, December 12 at 6:00 p.m. the day school will present its annual Christmas program. Students junior kindergarten through sixth grade have practiced and practiced, as always, to bring to you a pitch perfect, not to be missed, extravaganza. Of course, there's hardly a seat to be had at this most popular event, BUT... you can watch it online! The entire performance will be Live Streamed! Just go to - https://www.christchurchcoronado.org/worship/live-stream/ - when the program begins at 6:00 p.m.

For more Christmas spirit you might enjoy the day school Drama Club's production of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" next Wednesday, December 18 at one of two show times - either 11:00 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. in Hinde Hall. Ms. Stillman, our fourth grade teacher, does an amazing job with the students, they are aspiring thespians!

Words to Live By
From Fr. Michael Tinnon
“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!’” - Luke 2:13-14

The Spirit of Christmas:
I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round … as a good time: a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time: the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. And therefore … though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good; and I say, God bless it!
~ Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Christmas: The Spirit of Giving:
In her book Especially at Christmas , Celestine Sibley recalled the atmosphere of giving her parents created, especially during the Christmas season. Her mother would continually remind the children that “Things aren’t important, people are.” As packages arrived, she would unwrap them, admire them, then ask the family, “Now who can we give this to?” Thinking back on the spirit of giving that filled her home at Christmas, Sibley said, “No matter what you had or didn’t have in a material way, Christmas stood by itself – glorious and unmatched by anything else that had happened in the history of the world. God himself had come to dwell among us, and with a richness like that to celebrate, who could be so self-centered as to speak of a ‘poor’ Christmas?”

CCDS Christmas Movie Night
Everyone is welcome!
Everyone is invited to attend the CCDS Christmas movie night this Friday, December 13 . Bring a chair or a blanket and dress in your warmies - we'll be showing Arthur Christmas at 5:30 p.m. in the courtyard. Bring some snacks if you wish - there will be popcorn and hot chocolate.

Here's a little about Arthur Christmas:

How CAN Santa deliver billions of presents to the whole world in just one night? With an army of one million combat-style Field Elves and a vast, state-of-the-art control center under the ice of the North Pole! So how could this incredible operation have MISSED one child?! To Santa's young son, Arthur, it threatens to end the magic of Christmas. With retired Grandsanta, a rebellious young elf, an old sleigh and some untrained reindeer, Arthur sets out in a crazy mission to deliver the last present!

Greening of the Church
Sunday, December 22, 2019
The parish family is invited to come and help decorate the church for Christmas! We hope that you will stay after the 10:00 a.m. service, Sunday, December 22 to lend a hand in preparation for the Christmas services. There are many tasks - wreaths to be hung, bows to be tied, greens to be arranged- something for everyone. You might consider wearing comfortable clothes to church that day. This is a festive occasion, a wonderful chance to work together and get to know fellow parishioners. We're even planning on having pizza for lunch.

Here is a beautiful video, shot and produced by parishioner Alan Tran, of last year's event. Get out your hankies - it's amazing.

Christmas Services
Something for everyone!
For the young and young at heart the family service at 3:00 p.m. is for you. It is a simple service where the Christmas story is told through readings, carols and, of course, the pageant. There are parts for any and all children who wish to participate. Just report "back stage" in Hinde Hall by 2:30 p.m. to don a costume. Nursery care is available.

The popular 5:00 p.m. service is a festive Eucharist that is usually packed; come early to grab your spot! Overflow seating is available in Hinde Hall where there will be toys to amuse wiggly little ones and room to roam. Nursery care is available.

The lovely "midnight" festive Eucharist at 10:00 p.m. is followed by a champagne reception in Hinde Hall. No nursery that late; little ones should be counting sugarplums!

Celebrate Christmas Day at 10:00 a.m. with a traditional service that includes carols. Children of all ages are welcome to wear their pj's. Bring a Christmas toy to be blessed. No nursery - everyone come to church!

Transition
Planning Our Future Together
The Call Committee wants your input
Listening Sessions

We are holding a series of listening sessions to hear what your hopes and dreams are for Christ Church and what qualities you consider important in a new rector. Please put on your calendar Sunday January 5 for a single service at 9 a.m. followed by a listening session.

In addition to our all church listening session, we are holding a number of smaller listening sessions with affinity groups. If your ministry group has not been approached to schedule one, please contact Julie Young if you are interested in having one.

Survey

We are inviting parishioners to complete the Church Assessment Tool (CAT) , an on-line instrument that will help leaders gauge the strength, vitality, and trends in our church. The information gained from this assessment will be valuable in helping the leaders of Christ Church as they discern the call of a new rector.

You should have received an email with a unique link to the CAT. We are asking you to go online by clicking on the link provided and tell us about your experiences in and priorities for our church. Please do not discuss the survey or your answers with others as this may influence their answers.

If you need a paper copy, please contact Julie Young at 619-213-2785 or come to the office, and we will provide one for you along with a self-addressed stamped return envelope.

All answers are strictly anonymous. We have no way of matching any assessment to a particular person, so please feel free to candidly share your perceptions, opinions and experiences. Our future together is dependent on your participation and honest answers.

Many thanks,
The Call Committee of Christ Church

New Vestry Nominations
From the Senior Warden
At our next parish meeting (February 23, 2020) our congregation will elect four new members to the Christ Church vestry . The vestry is the elected body of the parish that shares, with the rector, the responsibility for oversight of parish life and ministry. This includes ensuring that the spiritual mission of the church is maintained as well as carrying out the more secular duties related to church property, finances, and personnel.

Serving on the vestry is a unique experience and a special call to work together with other committed lay leaders playing a key role in the operation of and planning for the future of, Christ Church. It can also be a joyful experience that enriches both one's spiritual life and one's feeling of connectedness with the church community.

I ask you to prayerfully consider whether you might be called to this service at Christ Church or know of someone who would wish to be considered. The Vestry Nomination Committee is now accepting nominations . If you have any questions or wish to make a nomination, please contact Nominating Committee Chairman, Hal Skelly or me, Paul Laedlein, Senior Warden .

Not Able to Make it to Church?
3 things to DO....
Some Sundays you just can't make it to church. In that case, here are three things you can do:
  • Watch the Sunday service on our live-stream, both the 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. - via the website
  • Each week's Sunday bulletins for both services are also available on the website "Worship" page.
  • Sermons are usually posted on the homepage of the website. under "News".

Remember, the live-stream is just that, it broadcasts the services in real time, no recording is currently available.
