La Posada to try anew in OV
|
|
Former Nakoma Sky property, 80 acres off First Avenue, has been renamed La Posada at Pusch Ridge.
The La Posada Board of Trustees has approved the restructured, renamed, and restarted development of a second senior living campus in Oro Valley.
The property, owned by La Posada at First Avenue and Lambert in Oro Valley, was originally proposed as Nakoma Sky.
La Posada considers it “an ideal setting for development of another campus for Green Valley’s award-winning senior living community,” it said in a release Friday.
An earlier plan for development of the Oro Valley property was put on hold mid-2018 due to critical shortages of construction workers and key materials.
Much of the initial site work has been completed on the 80-acre parcel. La Posada management and representatives are in contact with Town of Oro Valley officials to update the project design. In the two years since the original project was halted, La Posada’s management team has been updating concepts to enhance the design, construction quality, and livability of the project, it said.
No firm dates have been set for final approvals, construction or sales offering of units at La Posada at Pusch Ridge, renamed for the prominent feature of the Santa Catalinas visible from the site. Final designs, approvals and construction planning are expected to take 13 months with a projected 18-month construction to follow.
"We believe the time is now right to move forward with development of our second campus, with an opportunity to offer a new and wonderful lifestyle option for the residents of the Oro Valley area" said Jane Lateer, chair of the La Posada Board of Trustees. The La Posada organization, based at its Green Valley community, is led by Joni Condit, president and CEO.
La Posada is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Green Valley, dedicated to providing a stimulating and enriching environment for seniors. Established over 33 years ago, with guidance from Tucson Medical Center and the late Keith Walden of Farmers Investment Company, La Posada has an estimated annual impact of more than $50 million on the economy of Southern Arizona.
La Posada currently employs more than 600 staff, and serves a community of nearly 800 residents. It maintains active community partnerships with area schools and service organizations. La Posada is recognized nationally as a leader in innovation and accountability in the field of senior living.

With sadness and yet resolve, we remember the terrible event of Jan. 8, 2011, the day shocking violence came into our own backyard, the plaza at Ina and Oracle.
On that day 10 years ago, 6 people were shot to death and 13 were wounded, to include Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, at a public access event for the Congresswoman. So, so many more were wounded psychologically, and collectively.
Our thanks to the first responders and medical personnel for their heroism that day, and every day.
That awful day, and the assault on our nation’s capital just this Wednesday – outrageous and unacceptable – should embolden us to carry on, to get our nation through unspeakable moments, to ensure that the light of America can shine through darkness.
Let’s get on with the hard work of democracy, as imperfect and tumultuous as it may be. If we do so, these threats can be diminished, and we can show the world that this great social experiment, government by and for the people, can succeed. -- DP

Ducey adds $2M for
outdoor dining help;
apps due by March 5
|
Restaurants and other dining establishments have until March 5 to apply for a share of an additional $2 million to expand outdoor dining, protect patrons and staff, and limit the spread of COVID-19.
Gov. Doug Ducey announced the additional funding this week.
“Arizona restaurant owners and their employees have worked diligently to serve patrons and limit the spread of COVID-19,” Ducey said. “Many restaurants have utilized outdoor dining to welcome more customers while maintaining safety, and we want to make sure our local restaurants have the opportunity to expand their outdoor seating. I’m grateful to the restaurant owners and employees who have gone above and beyond to safely serve Arizonans.”
The funding will recapitalize the Safest Outside Restaurant Assistance Program, launched last month by the governor, to provide up to $10,000 for restaurants to extend their outside premise, including outdoor furniture, barriers, patio heaters, patio covers, and more. So far, 265 Arizona restaurants have applied to the program, and 114 have received funding totaling $1 million. The additional funding will continue the program.
Eligible applicants include Arizona-owned and -operated restaurants and dining establishments that demonstrate a new extension of premises that has been approved by the local governing body and the Arizona Department of Liquor, if applicable.
Eligible applicants must plan to extend the premises for a minimum of three months, employ fewer than 50 full-time equivalent employees, and operate in compliance with COVID-19-related executive orders. Additional requirements are listed on the application, which is available

OOROO gives its Joyride,
free vehicle repairs for a
hard-working single mom
|
Chamber member OOROO Auto has given its fourth annual Joyride holiday present, in 2020 repairing the vehicle at no charge for a hard-working single mom who now has a safe, reliable vehicle to support her family.
In total, OOROO was able to repair the tail light, resurface the brake rotors, replace spark plugs, radiator hoses, battery, shocks/struts, and differential and transfer case fluid in her vehicle.
“She’s someone who is described by her loved ones as selfless, always putting the needs of her daughter before her own,” OOROO said. “When the pandemic hit, like many others, she lost her job, all the while battling other personal hardships along the way. We’re honored that we could bring some Joy to a hard year for our recipient by giving the gift of a safe and happy car.”
“I’m overjoyed at the kindness of your shop and what you are doing,” the recipient said. “This is perhaps the best Christmas season ever, despite my challenges, because it has shown me what a wonderful community I live in.”
A panel of independent judges evaluated the applications and made the recommendation.

What’s in the new
COVID-19 package?
|
While Congress continues to debate the level of individual payments -- $600 up to $2,000 – for pandemic relief, last week it did pass a second COVID-19 relief package.
The U.S. Chamber has created a summary guide to small business COVID-19 emergency loans. To read more, click here:
As part of its end-of-year pandemic relief package, Congress has passed several changes to the Paycheck Protection Program, and created a “Second Draw” PPP for small businesses who have exhausted their initial loans. Other changes impact eligibility for initial PPP loans, the loan forgiveness process, and the tax treatment of PPP loans.
Congress has also made changes to other programs – including Economic Injury Disaster Loans, the Employee Retention Tax Credit, a Venue Grant program, and SBA loan programs – intended to benefit small businesses.
