ANNOUNCEMENTS
Dear La Salle Academy Families,

National speaker, Jodee Blanco is coming to La Salle Academy this coming Monday, February 3rd.  She speaks at schools and other venues all over the country about Bullying, its effects on students and families, ways to identify it and to help it to STOP.  We will have a K-4th grade presentation and a separate 5th-8th grade presentation for the students of La Salle Academy during school on Monday. There will also be an Evening Family Seminar that evening in the school gymnasium from 6:00pm-7:30pm for you to attend.

The Parent/Family seminar is described as an enlightening interactive workshop for parents and their children to attend together. It aims to deepen their understanding of each other and actively improve the way they communicate. Mrs. Blanco will describe: the warning signs that a child may be a bully or a victim, how to intervene successfully, how to deal with the parents of the bullies or victims, how to work productively with the school, why some students are targeted by bullies more than others, how to spot the warning signs that a child may be contemplating suicide or aggressive behavior due to bullying, and other critical information. Children MUST be accompanied by an adult or guardian in order to attend the evening family presentation. This presentation will be suited for all parents and 5th-8th grade students. Parents may choose to bring your 3d grader or younger child at your discretion as you know your child’s need best and how they may absorb this sort of information and maintain attention at a 1.5 hour long interactive presentation.

We are opening this evening program to you and your children and the parents and children in the St. Benedict’s and St. John Baptist de la Salle parish religious education programs. Grandparents and other family members of yours are also welcome to attend with you. We hope this program is an enriching experience full of practical information for the whole family as well as our school administration and faculty. We hope our entire community can use what comes from this presentation to continue dialogue to make positive change and to help our students live the fullest and happiest lives God planned for each one of them.

There is no need to preregister for this event. We hope you can join us.

Sincerely,

Mr. Stephen Mickulik, M.Ed.
Principal

Jodee Blanco - Survivor Turned Activist & Advocate for the Bullied

I want you to know that I’m not just a face in cyberspace. Since the release of my first book, The New York Times Best-seller, Please Stop Laughing At Me… One Woman’s Inspirational Story, I’ve been touring the nation’s schools sharing my experiences with students, teachers and parents to motivate change. My anti-bullying program is called INJJA (It’s NOT Just Joking Around!™) and it consists of live presentations and optional long-term follow-up.

CONGRATULATIONS
