Known for her meticulous research, unrivaled sources and thoughtful analysis, Anabel brings to the show over three decades of bold investigative reporting on the dark connection between drug cartels and governments, the police and military, and the business and finance worlds.
Said Hernandez: “I couldn’t be more excited about bringing my investigative reporting to the new podcast medium where, for the first time ever, I can talk directly to the audience on a weekly basis in my own words, uncensored and unfiltered.”
In the first episode of Narcosistema, which debuted on Thursday (8/1/2024), Anabel discusses all aspects of the recent surprise arrest of Ismael “Mayo” Zambada, the head of the Sinaloa Cartel, who Mexican and American authorities had been chasing for decades. Anabel provides a detailed account of El Mayo’s rise to power, his arrest, and the implications of his unexpected downfall for the Sinaloa Cartel and the Mexican government.
Said Jordi Oliveres, Pitaya’s co-founder and general manager: “Anabel Hernandez’s courageous and insightful reporting about cartels, drug lords and drug wars has fascinated readers for decades. Now she brings her unparalleled research and insights to her new weekly podcast series. As front page stories around the world report on Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada’s recent arrest, nothing could be more timely. Narcosistema is sure to become the place to go to fully understand that arrest, and so much more.”
Narcosistema is now available for free on all major podcast apps, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Amazon Music, as well as on the Pitaya website (pitaya.fm) and YouTube. All episodes are in Spanish, with English-language closed captions available on YouTube. New episodes are released every Thursday.
