LaAmistad Afterschool: By The Numbers
|
|
It was another incredible year
of academic growth for our students in LaAmistad afterschool. Numbers for the year are in, and we could not be more proud of how much our students have achieved academically and grown personally. The improvements we saw over the 2018-2019 school year are the kind that encourage and inspire us to continue working towards fulfillment of our mission.
Our impact is real
.
Last year, across all Afterschool sites, we saw an
average
improvement on reading fluency assessments of over 85%.
In
math
our students made some tremendous leaps,
improving by an average of nearly 370%
.
We'd love to pat ourselves on the back for these gains, but in truth it is the dedication of volunteers, teachers, donors, and the students themselves that make these kinds of improvements possible. The credit is truly all yours. Stay tuned for the latest edition of our Annual Report where we will outline some of our most compelling stories from throughout the year, as well as take a deeper dive into the quantifiable success of LaAmistad Afterschool.

Anímate Summer Academy 2019
|
|
LaAmistad's 2019 Anímate Summer Academy was one of the best yet.
In an effort to combat the dreaded "summer slide" that too often robs students of their academic gains, LaAmistad partnered with The Westminster Schools and St. Martin's Episcopal School again this June to provide Afterschool students, and others, the chance to have an enriching summer camp experience while sharpening their skills for the upcoming school year.
Mornings were filled with concept reinforcement and guidance from LaAmistad volunteers, while afternoons were spent on the fun, traditional summer camp activities we all know and love.
Special thanks
to our friends at
LOVE Atlanta
for helping to send students off with a bang on their final day
,
and to our i
ncredible partners like the
YMCA, FoodCorps, Soccer in the Streets, The High Museum
and more that helped make this summer one for our students to remember. Check out the fun with the link below!

ESL Adding Resources for Volunteers, Adult Students
|
LaAmistad ESL has long been one of Atlanta's most convenient, effective ways for adult learners to improve their English fluency in and get on the path to their next great opportunity.
The sense of community and comradeship
in the classroom is our programs most valuable asset, and it is in this spirit that we are adding new elements for students and volunteers alike.
Through the implementation of proven
communication systems
, the addition of
Site Coordinators
to handle on-site day-to-day operations, and the provision of a wealth of
ESL related resources
accessible on our website, LaAmistad is taking the program to new heights.
