Community Comes Together to Brighten Students' Holiday Season
LaAmistad's community of givers closed out 2020 by helping afterschool students have a happy holiday season. In a year when many families across the Metro Atlanta area struggled through lost jobs, reduced social interaction, and food insecurity, the LaAmistad family stepped up to ease parents' financial strain by supporting holiday gift giving efforts. Afterschool students at Peachtree Church, Shallowford Presbyterian Church, Clairmont Presbyterian Church and more were invited to drive through their home location for socially-distanced gift pickup.

Thank you to all of the individuals and organizations whose selflessness and generosity helped make this outpouring of holiday love possible. Scroll down to check out some of the gifts students received!
LaAmistad Awarded Grant by Cobb EMC Community Foundation
The Cobb EMC Community Foundation, a third-party foundation separate from Cobb EMC employees and directors, recently made a grant in support of LaAmistad's mission with funds from the Operation Roundup initiative. Funds will be used to further LaAmistad's efforts to provide transformative afterschool, ESL, and parent education offerings to the Latino and immigrant communities of Metro Atlanta.

Operation Round Up rounds up Cobb EMC bills to the nearest dollar to aid charitable and educational projects in local communities. All Cobb EMC members are automatically enrolled in Operation Round Up and will remain in the program until they request to be removed from it.
Volunteer Goes the Extra Mile for Students
The love and dedication of LaAmistad Afterschool volunteers never cease to amaze us. Beloved Peachtree Church volunteer Harriett Swennes has given over 1,700 hours of her time tutoring LaAmistad Afterschool students. In that time she has formed meaningful relationships with countless students, and continues to do so in LaAmistad Afterschool Online. This month, when her internet went down at home, she made a timely trip to the church to ensure that she and her mentee could proceed with their session. Thank you, Mrs. Harriett, for being an inspiration to us all.
