Volunteers Log On for Togetherness, Games, and Fun |
|
For an organization built on the transformative impact of positive relationships, not being able to see and interact with each other this year has posed a challenge to say the least. Typically, LaAmistad invites all of the members of its incredible community of givers to join together each spring and celebrate the work they've done in fellowship with one another. Unfortunately such a gathering was not possible this year, so, this month, LaAmistad set out to do the next best thing.
On Friday, March 19th, LaAmistad Afterschool hosted its first-ever Reunite, Refresh, Rejuvenate event virtually via Zoom. Over 50 volunteers logged on for the event, which featured remarks from Board Member Lisa Limoncelli and Executive Director Cat McAfee. Volunteers then went into breakout rooms where they learned and played educational versions of classic games like Jeopardy and Who wants to be a Millionaire that they can use during afterschool tutoring sessions with their respective students. The event closed with a special song from longtime LaAmistad staffer Sophia Jackson, leaving the room energized, hopeful, and proud.

Vinings Rotary Supports LaAmistad with 2020 5K Race Donations |
|
LaAmistad received the support of the Vinings Cumberland Rotary Club this month when they were named as one of the organizations to receive donation proceeds from the Vinings Downhill 5K for the Kids event. The 24th installment of the annual race took place virtually in 2020. It was held online on August 8th and 9th.
Each year, The Vinings Rotary Charity Fund accepts grant applications for funds generated by the 5K from organizations benefiting children in the Atlanta metro area. LaAmistad is grateful to have been chosen as one of this year's recipients. Funds will be used to further the organization's mission to prepare Latino students and families for success through academic and life enrichment programs.

LaAmistad Resource Pick-Up and Drop-Off Need Your Help |

Throughout the pandemic, LaAmistad has proudly gone above and beyond the typical scope of its services to support families in need. Through partnerships with organizations like Urban Recipe, Second Helpings Atlanta, Inc., and Compassion Kitchen, LaAmistad has secured thousands of donated pre-cooked meals and non-perishable items to help support the students and families it serves.
That's where you come in! We could use your help loading and dropping off the donations.

Afterschool Achievers Earn Prizes for Excellence |
|
In a virtual tutoring model, LaAmistad Afterschool continues striving to make learning interactive, impactful, and fun! These young scholars from LaAmistad's Centro Catolico location are a perfect example. Despite the distance from friends, teachers, and classmates, these achievers have done a tremendous job keeping up with their assignments and using available supplemental tools. As contest winners, each of them received a Chick-fil-A gift card for going above and beyond with their studies! We are so proud of all of our Afterschool students for pushing through in these trying times, and so thankful that they can rely on a group as dedicated, compassionate, and kind as LaAmistad's amazing volunteers.
