Support LaAmistad on Giving Tuesday December 1st
You've heard of Black Friday, maybe you've even heard about Small-Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, but have you heard of Giving Tuesday? Inspired by the spirit of the holiday season, Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world through charitable giving.

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

LaAmistad is proud to be participating for the third consecutive year. Click the button below to choose LaAmistad as your Giving Tuesday organization!

Atlanta Braves Award $10K for LaAmistad Afterschool
LaAmistad was awarded a $10,000.00 grant by the Atlanta Braves Foundation to help support LaAmistad's Afterschool tutoring efforts throughout the Atlanta area. Funds will be used for program expenses and educational enrichment activities for participating students and families.

The award comes as LaAmistad prepares to conclude it's first semester of virtual afterschool instruction, with plans to remain online until the conclusion of the 2020-2021 school year.

Since 1994, the Atlanta Braves Foundation has provided support and resources to thousands of metro Atlanta-based organizations. Through the generous support of Braves players and staff, sponsors and fans, the Atlanta Braves Foundation is committed to investing in children, families and communities across Braves Country.

What is your ethnic origin?
I am from Colombia

How has the program helped you in your daily life?
It helped me to understand the tasks of my daughters, and to have more confidence in myself.

Why did you choose LaAmistad ESL?
Many spoke highly of this place to me. When I entered, they started virtual, because of the pandemic, and that made it easier for me to be aware of my children while I learn.

LaAmistad Awarded $60K Grant from Greater Atlanta COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund
This month, LaAmistad received a grant from the Greater Atlanta COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund to assist LaAmistad in its efforts to aide the students and families it serves with quality-of-life expenses, such as rent and grocery assistance, during the COVID-19 pandemic. LaAmistad's COVID relief initiatives continue to have a life-changing impact for participating LaAmistad families facing unprecedented hardships this year, and funding will be utilized to bolster similar outreach efforts.

The coronavirus pandemic has ushered in a “perfect storm” of health care and economic crises that have not been seen in our lifetime. These crises have exposed and exacerbated the impacts of systemic inequities, especially racial inequities, that many Georgians have been suffering under for generations. Managed by United Way of Greater Atlanta and the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta, the Greater Atlanta COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund makes grants to nonprofits that are working on the frontlines to support our region’s most vulnerable workers and families.
