LaAmistad Afterschool at
Connection Pointe Starts March 9th
LaAmistad will open its newest Afterschool programming location on Monday, March 9th at Connection Pointe Church of God in Austell, Ga.

We are thrilled to be expanding our services in metro Atlanta, providing academic and life enrichment programming to a larger segment of Atlanta's Latino community. According to a study by the PEW Research Center, Georgia is home to the fastest growing Latino population in the country. We feel it is our duty as an organization to rise to meet the growing need for high-quality educational resources for Latino students and families.

Getting There: LaAmistad Set to Unveil New Bus with Ceremony March 7th
LaAmistad will cut the ribbon on a newly acquired programming bus on March 7th at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church. The new bus comes as the result of a grant award from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, and will aim to increase community access to resources like LaAmistad's low-cost English for Successful Living classes.

Atlanta is famously one of the most sprawling major cities in the United States. With 20 city-wide program locations, reliable transportation has at times been a hurdle to families hoping to take advantage of LaAmistad's supplementary services.

Asked about what the new bus will mean to LaAmistad, Executive Director Cat McAfee said, “This bus is a total game changer for the services we offer. Transportation challenges have too often prevented LaAmistad community members from taking advantage of the resources available. Now instead of asking our clients if they have reliable transportation, we’ll be asking 'where can we pick you up?' That’s huge for us and huge for our students.”

Volunteers, donors, and various other stakeholder groups are invited to celebrate the occasion with hors d'oeuvres, fellowship, and visions of the future. Click the button to RSVP!
Census Support Team
Getting the Word Out

The 2020 Census looms large for the LaAmistad community. It is critical that Latino students and families participate in the upcoming count, as federal resource allocations will be based on the collected data for the next ten years. As part of its partnership with the Latino Community Fund of Georgia, LaAmistad is doing its part to get the word out to Latino families throughout the state.

This month, during our first text bank session at Peachtree Church, LaAmistad's Census Support Team contacted nearly 14 thousand families, providing pertinent information and assuaging some lingering fears about participation.

LaAmistad Students and Families Join in Family Fun Night at Clairmont
Few things are more inspiring to us more than local families gathering together for educational fun. This month, LaAmistad students were invited to take part in just that during Family Fun Night at Clairmont Presbyterian Church. The event featured food, games, fellowship, and a "Reading Blast Off" magic show performance. LaAmistad is grateful for the active, engaged stewardship of Clairmont Presbyterian Church.
