In all the buyout deal amounts to just shy of $18 million
The termination agreement also includes media appearance stipulations, with Orgeron required to make at least one public appearance on behalf of LSU per year through 2025. |
Duration: 1 hr 30 min

Monday, we will collect your frozen food scraps on the veranda of the Audubon Clubhouse, the Golf Club at Audubon Park during our new summer hours from 4:30 - 6:00PM.
This free residential food waste collection will be every Monday from 4:30 - 6:00PM.
Please bring your FROZEN food scraps (no meat, no bones, no dairy) to the bins on the veranda between 4:30-6:00pm.
Please observe program hours.
Please do NOT drop off early or late.
Please do not leave scraps if you do not see bins.
Please bring your FROZEN fruit and vegetable scraps, eggshells, nut shells, tea bags, coffee grounds, plain pasta or bread.
Bring your food waste in a paper or compostable bag or bring your scraps in a reusable container.
We will have bins for you to empty your frozen scraps into. If you do not see bins, please do NOT just leave your scraps.
Seriously. They will cancel the program if you do.
NO MEAT, NO DAIRY, NO OILY FOODS, NO BONES.
Why FROZEN? Scraps must be frozen, to avoid potential smells, roaches and rodents. Our volunteers thank you!
Also, freezing your scraps means no smell, fruit flies, roaches or rodents for you at home PLUS freezing breaks down the cell membrane, speeding up the decomposition process.
Not everyone is ready to build and maintain a compost bin in their backyard or have a worm bin in their home - that's fine. You can still help reduce the amount of food waste going into landfills by participating in this free, easy & convenient food waste collection program!
DO NOT drop off any food waste outside the scheduled times.

DEAR MR. WILLIAMS DATES: OCTOBER 9 – 24, 2021
New Orleans most historic theatre company, Le Petit Theatre, begins its 105th season in October with Bryan Batt’s Dear Mr. Williams.
Dear Mr. Williams is an authentic and wonderfully theatrical coming-of-age one-man play set in the colorful, sensuous, and magical city of New Orleans. Told both through the humorous and sometimes heartbreaking voice of its native son author, Bryan Batt, as well as through the celebrated works of Tennessee Williams. Drawing from the iconic writer’s noted classic plays to his more obscure poetry and short stories, an enthralling tale of discovery is woven as Tennessee’s masterful words inspire the narrative celebrating exciting revelations and undeniable truths. Life’s mysterious and magical journey can be a turbulent rollercoaster ride, but it’s so much more thrilling with Tennessee Williams as your guide.
First seen as an informal reading produced by Le Petit Theatre during the New Orleans Tennessee Williams Festival, the work then had a workshop seen on the Le Petit Theatre stage in 2019

NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CUPCAKE DAY
National Chocolate Cupcake Day on October 18th annually celebrates the sweetness of small chocolate cakes. With a dollop of frosting, one sweet serving satisfies chocolate and cake lovers!
Cupcakes have also been called:
- Fairy Cakes
- Patty Cakes
- Cup Cakes (different from Cupcakes (one-word))
Cupcakes can be traced back to 1796 when a recipe notation of “a cake to be baked in small cups” was written in American Cookery, by Amelia Simmons. The earliest known documentation of the term cupcake was in 1828 in Seventy-five Receipts for Pastry, Cakes, and Sweetmeats in Eliza Leslie’s Receipts cookbook.
Bakers initially baked their cupcakes in heavy pottery cups. However, bakers today use a plethora of tools at their fingertips. Some still use individual ramekins, small coffee mugs, large teacups, or other small ovenproof pottery-type dishes for baking their cupcakes. Of course, the most common cupcake tool is the muffin or cupcake pan. This handy tool includes multiple cups in one device.
Chocolate cupcakes come in a variety of flavors, too. Of course, there’s always the standard chocolate cupcake. But why stop there on a holiday?
- Chocolate caramel cupcakes satisfy that extra cry for sweetness.
- Peanut butter chocolate cupcakes are the snacker’s delight.
- Get devilishly good cupcakes with Devil’s Food.
- Cool things off a bit with chocolate mint recipes, too.
- And you can’t forget chocolate orange cupcakes. Citrus brightens the flavor of any chocolate recipe.

INTERNATIONAL LEGGING DAY
Get geared up for International Legging Day every October 18th. Although it’s a year-round staple, when temps drop in the fall, it’s officially legging season!
Once a necessity providing an added layer of warmth, the legging is now an iconic style combining comfort and fashion. Leggings truly set a trend in the 1950s and ‘60s as a standard wardrobe piece and workout essential.
Over time, breathable materials, textures, designs, and prints ushered in the undeniable era of leggings. Now, modern-day leggings are feats of engineering designed to enhance your workout. While they continue to be a gym essential, legging styles are now so versatile that they’re widely acceptable to wear as pants. In a wide range of looks, comfortable leggings offer something for everyone.
As the popularity of athleisure skyrockets, so too does the mass appeal of the legging. Clearly, this comfortable, curve-hugging style hasn’t just revolutionized what we wear to the gym—it’s revolutionized what we wear everywhere! The versatile legging has sparked a global revolution that encourages women to embrace comfort and stay active.

Whether seen on HBO’s Treme or at their legendary Tuesday night gig at The Maple Leaf, Grammy-winning Rebirth Brass Band is a true New Orleans institution. Formed in 1983 by the Frazier brothers, the band has evolved from playing the streets of the French Quarter to playing festivals and stages all over the world. While committed to upholding the tradition of brass bands, they’ve also extended themselves into the realms of funk and hip-hop to create their signature sound. “Rebirth can be precise whenever it wants to,” says The New York Times, “but it’s more like a party than a machine. It’s a working model of the New Orleans musical ethos: as long as everybody knows what they’re doing, anyone can cut loose.” In the wake of the sometimes- stringent competition amongst New Orleans brass bands, Rebirth is the undisputed leader of the pack, and they show no signs of slowing down.

Get out your lederhosen, spruce up your dirndls and prepare to eat and drink German style — It’s time for Oktoberfest at Middendorf’s!
We hope you can join us!
- Oktober 20, 2021 - November 11, 2021
- Every Wednesday & Thursday at Middendorf's Manchac and Middendorf's Slidell
- Meals served all day, lunch and dinner, 10:30am-9:00pm (while supplies last)
Middendorf's
Physical Address:, 30160 Hwy 51 S., Akers, LA 70421

This year, Oktoberfest will be every Wednesday and Thursday, Oktober 20, 2021 through November 11, 2021, at Middendorf’s Manchac and Middendorf’s Slidell. This will be our 14th year of Oktoberfest featuring authentic German appetizers, entrees, desserts and beer.
The German expertise comes from Middendorf’s Owner and European Master Chef Horst Pfeifer who is a native of Germany. He grew up in the hamlet of Bächlingen where his family still lives today. The village was established in 950 AD and boasts a grand population of around 150 people.
“It’s an honor to share my German heritage with everyone through the recipes that I grew up with,” said Horst Pfeifer. “I think Louis Middendorf would have been so happy to see Oktoberfest here at the restaurant. Louis was also from Germany, and he founded Middendorf’s back in 1934 with his wife, Josie. It’s funny because Middendorf’s is so widely known for seafood that a lot of people don’t realize that Middendorf is actually a German name.”
During Oktoberfest, there is a different German meal available each week for lunch and dinner, 10:30am-9:00pm (while supplies last). If you dine with us all 6 weeks, you will receive an Oktoberfest Prize! Punch cards must be punched each week and turned in on the final week. Get all the details on the Oktoberfest menu later in this newsletter.
The full regular menu is also available for guests so those who can’t possibly come to Middendorf’s without partaking of our “World Famous Thin Fried Catfish” can rest assured, the catfish and other beloved seafood dishes aren’t going anywhere.
Authentic German music is also in store for Oktoberfest. At Middendorf’s Slidell, the talented Al DiMarco will be back to play the accordion in the evenings, starting at 4:30pm. Over at Middendorf’s Manchac, Heinz Pfeifer (Horst’s brother) should make his triumphant return for the last two weeks of Oktoberfest, November 3-4 and November 10-11 (as long as the international travel rules don’t change again). Heinz will fly-in from Germany to entertain guests with his accordion and conversation.
Catch all the authentic German food, music and fun during Oktoberfest at Middendorf’s. It’s every Wednesday and Thursday at Middendorf’s Manchac and Middendorf’s Slidell, Oktober 6, 2021 through November 11, 2021.

PLAN AHEAD
GET YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE
- If you purchase your ticket in advance you will skip the Box Office all together.
-
On peak nights we highly recommend you purchase a Fast Pass or Skip the Line ticket as this will greatly reduce your wait in line or eliminate it altogether.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Upon arriving at the New Orleans Nightmare Haunted House, if you have already purchased your tickets, proceed directly through security, and then to your designated entrance - General Admission, Fast Pass, or Skip the Line. There is no need to exchange your print-at-home-ticket at the ticket booth; the ticket you printed is your ticket and includes admission to both of the attractions on-site at New Orleans Nightmare Haunted House.
- If you purchased your tickets in advance, expect to feel good about that decision as you pass the line at the box office and proceed to our entry lines.
-
If you purchased a Fast Pass or Skip the Line ticket expect to feel even better as you skip the General Admission line altogether.
- No groups larger than 10 will be sent through together. If you arrived with more than 10 in your party, you will be split into smaller groups to enter.
- Final note: on our busy weekend nights and weekday nights closer to Halloween, we can sell out. To ensure your entry, purchase tickets online in advance; you can do this any time during our season, up to the day you plan to attend. Those of you that are tech savvy can even purchase your tickets online from your smartphone on your way to the haunted house! Your tickets are emailed to you immediately, you can pull them up on your smartphone screen and we can scan them at the entrance right on your phone. If you have an online ticket in hand, you will get in that night. However, in the event of a sellout night, our on-site box office will close early. The Mortuary Haunted Mansion
Open
The fact that The Mortuary Haunted Mansion sits next to a cemetery and was once a funeral home is already scary enough. Now, add creepy creatures, and you really have a frightening scene.
This year, the haunted house explores a new theme called “Inferno,” with the website describing the plot as “a supernatural event leading to the two men’s disappearance over New Orleans.”
Source: The Mortuary Haunted House
The popular Mid-City attraction was originally scheduled to open on Sept. 18. After Hurricane Ida, the haunted attraction postponed its opening date.
The Mortuary says it will follow all safety guidelines established by the City of New Orleans concerning COVID prevention. At this time, that includes proof of at least one dose of an approved COVID vaccine or negative PCR test within 72 hours. All visitors will also be required to wear a mask inside the attraction.
The Mortuary Haunted Mansion opens for tours starting Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, with an additional date on Nov. 6. General admission tickets for the attraction start at $25.00, plus additional fees for VIP Fast Passes or VIP Frequent Fear Passes.

LIVE MUSIC FROM THE BRASS-A-HOLICS at the Jazz Playhouse
Since 2010, the Brass-A-Holics have been taking their unique sound around the world. Steeped in the deep musical culture of New Orleans, the band brings a heavy dose of go-go funk to the New Orleans brass sound. In a blending of musical cultures stemming from cities separated by more than a thousand miles, a Brass-a-Holics live show takes the New Orleans brass band culture and infuses it with the electricity of Washington D.C.'s go-go. The resulting sound is both captivating and unique. The band consists of core New Orleans brass elements- trumpet, trombone, saxophone- and adds a full drum set, percussion, keyboard, bass and electric guitar, giving the band limitless options to explore new sonic territory.
*Preferred Seating for small parties only. Parties of 8 or more people must inquire via email to cwhitney@sonesta.com to reserve.*
**Refund available upon cancellation of reservation within 72 hours of show time**
**Special Event valet rate - $5/vehicle. Please provide ticket to event staff for validation. Garage entryways located on both the Bienville and Conti sides of the hotel.

NOLA River Fest Focuses On Caribbean Connections
|
The ninth annual NOLA River Fest on Saturday, October 23, at the New Orleans Jazz Museum celebrates the cultural, economic, and environmental impacts of the Mississippi River and its inhabitants on the Crescent City and the entire Gulf South region. The daylong celebration from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. will include live music, local food and craft vendors, and a full bar. This year’s theme explores Caribbean connections, specifically the tradition of rum and sugar production and trade and their immense impact on international economies.
The N’Awlins D’Awlins Baby Dolls and the Original Wild Tchoupitoulas Mardi Gras Indians led by Big Queen Mary K. Stevenson will start the day off with a second line parade beginning at 11 a.m. at Jackson Square and disbanding at the New Orleans Jazz Museum.
“As we navigate the COVID pandemic and recover from damage caused by Hurricane Ida, it’s all the more important we keep our cultural traditions alive,” said Greg Lambousy, director of the New Orleans Jazz Museum. “Fortunately with our large grounds that take up an entire city block, the museum is uniquely positioned to make this happen.”
The festival is free and open to the public. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the festival will allow limited in-person access but programs and concerts may be viewed online through Facebook Live.
The musical lineup includes:
12 – 1 pm | The Tremé-Lafitte Brass Band with special guests the N’Awlins Dawlins Baby Dolls and Big Queen Mary Kay of the Original Wild Tchoupitoulas Mardi Gras Indians. The Tremé-Lafitte Brass Band takes New Orleans’ traditional style and adds on funk with new original songs written and performed by the award-winning Broadway star Palonco Jones. Iconic bandleader Vernon Severin has performed since he was in middle school, melding the music from the New Orleans streets he grew up on with the sounds he heard traveling the world.
1:30 – 2:30 pm | Bo Dollis Jr & The Wild Magnolias offer a modern musical face of Mardi Gras Indian culture, helping to unite the Mardi Gras Indian nation with performing artists throughout New Orleans. Bo Dollis Jr.’s new album, My Name Is Bo, released in August, represents the sounds of Indian practices with some of New Orleans’ best musicians and vocalists.
3- 4 pm | Formed in 2016, the Jason Neville Funky Soul Band compiles a mix of covers and originals to showcase a creative combination of funk and jazz. Jason Neville, son of world-famous vocalist Aaron Neville, and lead vocalist and percussionist Lirette Dabney Neville, known as “The First Lady of Funk,” head the band.
4:30 – 5:30 pm | Sunpie and the Louisiana Sunspots specialize in their own style of Afro-Louisiana music incorporating blues, zydeco, gospel, and Caribbean-influenced rhythms and melodies. Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes is the Big Chief of the North Side Skull and Bones Gang, one of the oldest Black Carnival groups in New Orleans. He has recorded six critically-acclaimed CDs with his compositions currently featured in 16 Hollywood film productions.
6 – 7 pm | Jacques Schwarz-Bart, born in Guadeloupe, is a saxophonist best known for his creation of two new surging styles: Gwoka Jazz and Voodoo Jazz. He reunites jazz music with its Afro-Caribbean and spiritual origins. A professor at Berklee College of Music, Schwarz-Bart has performed with Erykah Badu, Eric Benet, and David Gilmore, among others.
Food vendors will include Carmo, Clesi’s Seafood, Street and Soul 504 and Friends of Culture with an emphasis on Caribbean-inspired cuisine. In collaboration with the Louisiana Crafts Guild, an outdoor arts market will be set up on the museum grounds from 12 to 6 p.m.

Help us "frost" our new giant birthday cake! Thanks to everyone who helped build the new cake structure at our summer build workshop with artist Jacob Martin. Next, we'll be using caulk, paint and spray foam to turn this brown paper into a luscious frosted cake, so you might want to wear your mess clothes. Jobs for all skill levels, everyone welcome (as long as you've been vaccinated!).
We'll be working at our new krewe "den" at the home of krewe artist and co-captain Amanda Helm and longtime krewe members Rich and Judy Helm. It's decked out in krewe memorabilia with bigger and more organized work space, so come enjoy it! 7330 Sycamore St, New Orleans (map)
Three cake workshops are scheduled on Saturdays noon-4 p.m. -- drop in whenever you can, stay as long as you like. RSVP encouraged to help us plan.
Oct. 23
Since we parade on Joan's birthday, the giant birthday cake is a signature prop carried by jesters at the front of our parade. The happy reason we're building a new cake is that our original cake will be featured in the upcoming exhibit "Art and Artistry of Mardi Gras" at the Historic New Orleans Collection Museum which opens on -- you guessed it -- January 6th! We're so honored to be included that we told them they could use the original .... while we make another museum-quality masterpiece for our own Twelfth Night use

Krewe of Boo parade is ‘step towards the return of Mardi Gras’
|
The Krewe of Boo is back!
Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued the following statement today regarding the Halloween parade's return:
“I am happy to approve the Krewe of Boo parade, rolling once again in New Orleans this fall,” said Mayor Cantrell. “In consultation with our public health leadership team, I am allowing this event to move forward and will be keeping a close eye on how it unfolds. This is a step towards the return of Mardi Gras next spring. What happens next depends on what we do right now! Our people have worked hard to blunt the spread of the Delta variant, and that hard work created an environment where it’s safe for the Krewe of Boo to roll.”
Given the ongoing pandemic conditions, the Krewe of Boo will require all riders and members of marching groups to be vaccinated, or show proof of a negative COVID test in order to participate in the parade.
This year’s parade is set for Oct. 23. It begins in the Marigny and rolls through the French Quarter before ending in the Warehouse District.
It all takes place in the city's French Quarter and begins at 6:30 p.m.
Entrance to watch the parade is free.
What Is the Parade's Route?
The parade will begin in Elysian Fields Avenue, heading towards North Peters Street.
From there, it will make its way to Decatur Street before passing Jackson Square on its way back to North Peters Street.
Then it will travel to Canal Street towards Burgundy Street where the parade then makes a U-turn.
Going back down Canal Street to Tchoupitoulas Street, it'll head from there to Andrew Higgins Drive where the parade ends.
