NATIONAL GET OUT OF THE DOGHOUSE DAY
Occasionally, we all need a free pass. National Get Out of the Doghouse Day on the third Monday in July offers the fast track home we all need once in a while.

Generally, when you are “in the doghouse,” you have fallen out of favor with someone, usually your spouse or significant other. However, you can also be “in the doghouse” with a friend or your boss at work. This day uses all those good cliches to get you back in the big house where you belong.
Here are some tips to get “out of the doghouse.”
  • Put down the technology – If this is on your naughty list, don’t use email, texting, or other technology to apologize. A face to face or handwritten apology is best.
  • Meet at a favorite coffee house –  The purpose here is to start talking. Listen to what the other person has to say and do not be judgmental or defensive. Find out why you are “in the doghouse” and give suggestions on how you can improve or fix the issue.
  • Send flowers, chocolates, or an appropriate gift – Include a hand-written note about how you are committed to fixing the issue. Do this AFTER you have already spoken. You will win extra brownie points as this will be unexpected. (Brownies will garner additional points, too!)
Tickets to each practice are free of charge and can be reserved at neworleanssaints.com, though capacity is limited. Saints season ticket-holders can reserve tickets as of July 18. They will open to season ticket waitlist members on July 19, and then the general public on July 20. As many as four tickets to two practices can be reserved per person.

Monthlong P.O.W.E.R. Plates Women’s Fundraising Program , July 18

NEW ORLEANS
The monthlong celebration of women in the state’s hospitality industry is part of Fidelity’s “Potential of Women Entrepreneurs Realized” (P.O.W.E.R.) program, which caters to thousands of female-owned businesses. Currently, program officials are seeking women-owned, women-managed or women-led restaurants and bars to participate in the annual fundraising program. The goal of the program is to raise awareness and drive business to women-led restaurants in South Louisiana during the slow summer business months.

The Louisiana Hospitality Foundation and Fidelity Bank are matching donations up to $2,500 for this year’s program. After a record 67 restaurants and bars participated in 2021, officials have set a goal of recruiting 75 restaurants throughout South Louisiana. Neat Wine is the participating wine sponsor and a special beer for the program was released by Port Orleans Brewery.

For more information, a list of participating restaurants and more, visit

Celebrate P.O.W.E.R. Plates with us!We're thrilled to be participating in Fidelity Bank's P.O.W.E.R. Plates, a month-long campaign that celebrates women leaders in the hospitality industry throughout Southeast Louisiana.
All month long whenever you order Tommy's featured dish, the Gulf Fish Capri, $1 from your purchase will be donated to the Louisiana Hospitality Foundation.

Tired of being ripped off

We called a Entergy- they came out and made sure our box was good (of course it was) and the service man said everyone needs to call Louisiana service commission at 225-342-4999 and file a formal complaint or nothing would change!
I say let’s blow their phone up!

NATIONAL SOUR CANDY DAY | JULY 18
July 18th is National Sour Candy Day! Adults and children alike will enjoy lip-puckering, eye-watering flavors. Choose your favorite sour candy and celebrate!

In the candy world, sour candy is the young, energetic, and fun member of the candy family. It awakens the taste buds and adds a punch of youthful energy. Every flavor combination out there creates a dazzling taste sensation. Surprisingly, sometimes a sweet candy delivers a walloping tear-jerking zap in a bite-sized lozenge or sucker that lasts for several minutes. Other times, it delivers the punch in a chewy form. These fun sour candies come in a variety of entertaining shapes and sizes. From chewy twists and ropes to sweet bite-sized pieces and straws, each one creates a unique juicy tang, indeed.
On this sweet holiday, instead of trying regular old candy, celebrate by trying sour candy. It’s like having a birthday and not getting any older! If you’ve tasted sour candy before, try a new flavor and discover which one makes your mouth pucker the most! Will it be Cherry or Watermelon or maybe a combination of Tangerine-Lemonade? Without a doubt, July 18th is the perfect day to share any of the variety of flavors the American Licorice Company has to offer.
NATIONAL CAVIAR DAY | JULY 17
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of caviar? “Oh, what a delicacy!” or “Ew! Fish eggs.” Whether you’re a fan or foe, National Caviar Day is celebrated nationwide on July 18 every year. Technically, real caviar isn’t just any fish eggs. It comes from the the female sturgeon fish. And it’s been a high-end dining staple ever since Cesar Ritz (fancy hotelier) put it on his menus.

There are several kinds of caviar, although the small black or gray colored roe is technically the most caviar of caviar. The pink or orange colored “caviar” actually comes from salmon. Find both to taste and compare which is better to you.

Whether seen on HBO’s Treme or at their legendary Tuesday night gig at The Maple Leaf, Grammy-winning Rebirth Brass Band is a true New Orleans institution. Formed in 1983 by the Frazier brothers, the band has evolved from playing the streets of the French Quarter to playing festivals and stages all over the world. While committed to upholding the tradition of brass bands, they’ve also extended themselves into the realms of funk and hip-hop to create their signature sound. “Rebirth can be precise whenever it wants to,” says The New York Times, “but it’s more like a party than a machine. It’s a working model of the New Orleans musical ethos: as long as everybody knows what they’re doing, anyone can cut loose.” In the wake of the sometimes- stringent competition amongst New Orleans brass bands, Rebirth is the undisputed leader of the pack, and they show no signs of slowing down

Disney's Mary Poppins
July 20 - 24, 2022

Everyone's favorite practically perfect nanny takes the stage in this Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure.
Buy Tickets
Directed by Ricky Graham
Mainstage, Run time: ~2.5 hrs, Rated: G
One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical! Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren't the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that "Anything can happen if you let it."

Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and astonishing stagecraft.

Thursday, July 21st 2022

Tim Laughlin began playing the clarinet at age 8, taking private lessons at Werleins. After high school, he joined the musicians union, playing with and hiring his "real world professors”. Laughlin has separated himself by composing original New Orleans Jazz, as heard on his award winning CD, The Isle of Orleans. His songs have been heard in television, commercials and major motion pictures. Two of his songs can be heard in a 2016 Eddie Murphy movie, Mr. Church. He now continues a long tradition of great New Orleans clarinetists.
