VISION trial shows new molecularly targeted radiation therapy extends survival for patients with advanced
 prostate cancer
A new cancer treatment that uses engineered radioactive molecules to target prostate cancer cells and inhibit tumor growth extended survival for patients with advanced prostate cancer, according to newly announced results of the VISION trial.

The international phase III clinical trial, which was co-led by Tulane University medical oncologist Dr. Oliver Sartor, is the first to use this approach to demonstrate improvements in survival for prostate cancer patients.

Researchers compared 177Lu-PSMA-617, a targeted radioligand therapy, against the current standard of care for men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). Radioligand therapy combines a targeting compound that binds to markers expressed by tumors and a radioactive isotope, causing DNA damage that inhibits tumor growth and replication. This approach enables targeted delivery of radiation to the tumor, while limiting damage to the surrounding normal tissue.

The trial is widely regarded as the most important demonstration of radioligand therapy’s efficacy in patients being treated for cancer, said Sartor, Medical Director of Tulane Cancer Center and C. E. and Bernadine Laborde Professor of Cancer Research at Tulane University School of Medicine.

“These are exceptionally strong data. This practice-changing trial is unequivocally important because it demonstrates an improvement in overall survival for patients who have very few alternative treatment options,” Sartor said. “Furthermore, the therapy is exceptionally well tolerated with a low incidence of significant side effects”

Sartor was co-principal investigator on the trial along with Dr. Bernd Krause, of Germany’s Rostock University Medical Center. The trial was sponsored by Endocyte, Inc., a Novartis company. Sartor is senior author of the abstract that will be presented on June 6 at the annual meeting for the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

VISION enrolled 831 mCRPC patients at 87 sites in 10 countries. All had been previously treated with chemotherapy and conventional hormonal therapy – either abiraterone or enzalutamide – and still had progressive disease. Prospective participants also underwent 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET scans to determine eligibility for randomization in the trial. Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is a unique protein found on the surface of most prostate cancer cells. The experimental agent tested in VISION – 177Lu-PSMA-617 – is an engineered radioactive molecule that binds to PSMA and delivers therapeutic doses of radiation to the prostate cancer cells. A total of 87% of scanned patients were PSMA-positive and considered eligible for the trial.

Trial participants were randomized into either the standard of care arm or the experimental arm, where 177Lu-PSMA-617 (in addition to standard of care) was given every 6 weeks for four planned doses. Up to six doses could be administered for responding patients. The standard of care choice was up to the investigator, but no chemotherapy or other isotopes were allowed.

After a median 20.9 months of follow-up, the study showed that 177Lu-PSMA-617 plus standard of care significantly improved median survival (15.3 vs. 11.3 months) versus standard of care alone. Tumors were more likely to shrink and PSA values were more likely to fall in those patients that received the molecularly targeted radiation.

“The therapy is well tolerated, and we’ve had some dramatic responses,” said Sartor, who anticipates approval of this new agent by regulatory agencies across the world, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, within the next year.

Next steps following this proof of principle trial, according to Sartor, are to test the agent in less heavily pre-treated patients, including those diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer and no prior hormonal treatments.

“This is an important new therapy. I envision that it will be used earlier in the stages of disease and new clinical trials are working on that issue right now,” Sartor said.

The Khris Royal Quartet featuring
Khris Royal, Conun Pappas, Max Moran and Trenton O'neal.
Khris Royal was born to be a musician. This young and exceptional New Orleans native began playing the saxophone at seven years old, and producing and writing music at fourteen. Royal’s musical talents were nurtured at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA) High School, in classrooms once shared by jazz greats such as Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Terrence Blanchard, and Donald Harrison. When Royal was only 16, he was granted a full scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and his career has taken off since then.
To date, Royal has played with hip-hop giants and jazz and funk legends alike, from Lettuce, to Bobby Brown, Alvin Batiste, Ellis Marsalis, Christian Scott, Branford, Delfeayo and Jason Marsalis, Tony Clifton, The Sam Kininger Band, and Johnta Austin. The impressive young artist has recorded with Mary J. Blige, Ashanti, Nelly and The Game, Erykah Badu, Goapele, D.J. Quick, and is also featured with the Regiment on Season 2 of The Boondocks. Royal has developed relationships with prominent New Orleans artists as well, such as George Porter Jr., Zigaboo Modeliste, Fred Wesley, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Galactic, and countless more. The range of Khris’ musical relationships is versatile and reflects the scope of his talent. Although Royal continues to expand and develop his craft, from Jazz, hip-hop, rock, soul, electronic, funk, R & B, Blues, and Reggae –musically, there is not much Khris Royal has not already mastered and incorporated into his unique style.
In addition to leading his own band, Khris Royal & Dark Matter (see below), Khris Royal has been the only horn player in George Porter Jr. & the Runnin’ Pardners since Fall 2009. In 2011, Royal joined as a touring member of the popular West Coast rock/reggae band, Rebelution.

NATIONAL BOONE DAY
National Boone Day, observed each year on June 7th, commemorates the day frontiersman Daniel Boone (November 2, 1734 – September 26, 1820) first began exploring the valleys and forests of the present-day Bluegrass State of Kentucky on June 7, 1769. Boone founded the village of Boonesborough, Kentucky, which is one of the first American settlements west of the Appalachians.
Daniel Boone, an American pioneer, explorer, and frontiersman, was born on November 2, 1734. His frontier exploits made him one of the United States’ first folk heroes. By the end of the 18th century, following the route marked by Boone, more than 200,000 European people had migrated to Kentucky/Virginia.
Daniel Boone married Rebecca Bryan on August 14, 1756. They lived in a cabin on his father’s farm where they had ten children. Boone supported his family as a market hunter, collecting pelts for the fur trade.
During the Revolutionary War, Boone served in the militia as an officer and, in 1778, Shawnee warriors captured him. They eventually adopted him into their tribe. He later left the Indians, returning to Boonesborough to help defend the European settlements in Kentucky/Virginia.
Following the war, Daniel Boone emigrated to eastern Missouri, where he spent most of the last two decades of his life. Boone died of natural causes on September 26, 1820, at the age of 85. His last words were, “I’m going now, my time has come.”
Many places in the United States are named after Daniel Boone, including the Daniel Boone National Forest, the Sheltowee Trace Trail, the town of Boone, North Carolina, and seven different counties. Schools are also named after Boone, including locations in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Chicago.
A legend in his lifetime, Boone remains an iconic figure in American history.
NATIONAL CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM DAY
To observe National Chocolate Ice Cream Day on June 7th all you need is chocolate ice cream. Who says you have to stop there, though? You can have it in a cone or make it from scratch. Add sprinkles or syrup or whipped cream.
Chocolate ice cream is the second most common flavor, surpassed only by vanilla. The chocolate-flavored ice cream has been in existence well over a hundred years and has been popular in the United States since the late 19th century.
Cocoa powder is blended in with eggs, cream, vanilla, and sugar to make chocolate ice cream. The cocoa powder is what gives the ice cream a brown color. Other flavors, such as rocky road or triple chocolate chunk, use chocolate ice cream in their creation.

Whether seen on HBO’s Treme or at their legendary Tuesday night gig at The Maple Leaf, Grammy-winning Rebirth Brass Band is a true New Orleans institution. Formed in 1983 by the Frazier brothers, the band has evolved from playing the streets of the French Quarter to playing festivals and stages all over the world. While committed to upholding the tradition of brass bands, they’ve also extended themselves into the realms of funk and hip-hop to create their signature sound. “Rebirth can be precise whenever it wants to,” says The New York Times, “but it’s more like a party than a machine. It’s a working model of the New Orleans musical ethos: as long as everybody knows what they’re doing, anyone can cut loose.” In the wake of the sometimes- stringent competition amongst New Orleans brass bands, Rebirth is the undisputed leader of the pack, and they show no signs of slowing down.

Come down to THNOC to see one of the most interesting artifacts on campus, a 1920s Aeolian organ! This new half-hour program will explore the history of the organ and its significance as a mechanical musical instrument. The presentation will include musical demonstrations—both manual and automatic—to illustrate how this technologically advanced instrument operates.
In the early 20th century, having a player organ in the home was a luxury reserved for the most opulent residences. Tobacco magnate William Ratcliffe Irby remodeled the property at 520 Royal Street—now part of THNOC’s exhibition center—to serve as his home starting in 1918. In the process he installed a player organ in the entry room to his lavish third-floor apartment. The instrument, built by the Aeolian Company of New York, is one of a handful that has survived to this day in its original location and in working condition, after a meticulous restoration by the Holtkamp Organ Company.

New stand-up comedy club, Comedy House New Orleans, opening in Warehouse District
Comedy Club New Orleans

The new comedy club opens in a space that was previously used as an extension of Après Lounge, which still operates next door. Owners say the grand opening will showcase the newly renovated and intimate space where guests can enjoy comedy and cocktails with table service.
New Orleans natives Jackie Sutherlin and Tami Nelson, who own and operate Comedy House New Orleans, say they hope the new venue will bring New Orleans “a long-awaited taste of comedy in the Warehouse District.” The venue was originally scheduled to open in May of 2020, which was delayed due to the pandemic

Future shows at Comedy House New Orleans will offer showcases featuring local talent, such as Mark Caesar, Clark Taylor and Alex Cureau.
So far, shows at the new venue are scheduled for Wednesday through Sunday nights in June. Open Mic Nights will be held at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. Shows on Thursdays through Sundays will host both regional and international talent with two sets each evening beginning at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
According to the calendar, New York-based comic Tacarra Williams, featured on NBC’s “Bring the Funny” is scheduled to perform in July.

We are still hard at work choosing the final lineups but keep an eye on our social media sites for the selections. Both evenings will offer a broad look at the winemaking styles, terroir and grape varieties of these two areas that benefit greatly from coastal climates.

We are excited to announce that the leader for this year's World Naked Bike Ride is our very own beautiful, burlesque star, Bella Blue. Bella is dancer, promoter, teacher and the owner of Bella Blue Entertainment., just to mention a few of her many accomplishments. She has agreed to guide us through the streets of the historic French Quarter to the delight of the lined-filled streets of spectators

It is important to remember that Bella, not the police escort, will be setting the pace of the ride. Please do not line up in front of her at the start of the ride and please stay behind her during the event.
pick up some sunscreen, decorate you bike, make signs, to invite ya mom n dem to come ride or watch. Ten days to tell your boss you have more important things to do and ten days to reach our goal and donate to our fund.
We don't have many rules, but the ones we do have are for your safety and to assure that everyone has an enjoyable time. I need to highlight a few do and don'ts. DO get to the Park early if you want to be painted by one of our volunteers. DO bring something to cover your vitals at the park in case an officer tell you to. DON'T be lewd under the law by overly touching someone else. DO not bring a motorized vehicle and expect to ride with people on bikes. DON'T ride ahead or along side the lead pedicabs. DO upon returning to the park stay long enough to get in the group photo. DO be sure to thank the police that escort us and keep us safe, I'm sure they don't hear it enough. DO be respectful of others and ask their permission before taking their pictures. DO pick up after yourselves and leave the park as we found it. If you uncomfortable or harassed in the park, seek out one of our red shirt security people. Basically, have fun, but be a decent human being.
DO share this event and invite your friends to ride (As Bare As You Dare) or to come and show support by being spectators.
If you have a have a way to play music on your bike or know someone that does bring it/them. Put bells on your bikes. Know someone with a Drone that would take pictures of us at the park, please ask them do it for us. If you know someone willing to take pictures of us rolling down the street from a balcony, let them and us know. If you are not getting body painted please let one of our volunteers paint a slogan pertaining to bicycle safety on your back.
These are not a lot of do and don'ts, but by following them it helps make this wonderful ride even more wonderful.
Ticket sales information will be announced on .

St. John's Eve 2021:
 LIVE on Bayou St. John

Magnolia Bridge - Bayou St. John
Sallie Ann Glassman and La Source Ancienne Ounfo celebrate St. John’s Eve with their annual Headwashing Ceremony (form of Vodou baptism) dedicated to Marie Laveau.
Wear all white with a white scarf for your head.
Bring an offering for Marie Laveau. She likes flowers, blue and white candles, Creole foods, hair ribbons and hair dressing supplies (she was a hairdresser), Vodou-esque items (Voodoo dolls, potions, gris-gris bags, etc.), Creole dishes or images of Marie Laveau.
The ceremony will feature the beautiful sculpture of Marie, by Ricardo Pustanio as the center pole and an altar by La Source Ancienne Ounfo.
For more info, call Island of Salvation Botanica: 504.948.9961.
We ask that all attendees be vaccinated if at all possible and wear masks. The ceremony will be socially-distanced and depending on CDC and city guidelines at the time, we may have participants take headwash solution to complete their headwashings at home after the ceremony.
