The New Orleans area is at the dead center of Laura's cone of uncertainty, with the storm expected to make landfall on the Gulf Coast as a Category 1 hurricane on Wednesday night.
The forecast track for Laura calls for a landfall as a 75 mile an hour hurricane south of New Orleans near Grand Isle Wednesday night. The latest forecast is a little further west than the previous one.

We are pleased to announce "ADNO LIVE", the first in an ongoing series of digital auctions hosted by the Arts District New Orleans. The premiere of this auction program coincides with the organization's annual event White Linen Night. This event, which the association founded 26 years ago, will take new form in 2020 as White Linen Light and take place through the entire month of August. A second auction will commence for the remainder of the month at the close of the first at noon CST on 15 August. All lots will be available for in-person, socially-distanced viewing at their respective galleries.
The event itself will take place both physically in the New Orleans’ historic Warehouse Arts District and online. The 14 contemporary art galleries and various eateries, which compose the Arts District, have safely reopened and look forward to welcoming guests back in to visit and view their current exhibitions at a safe distance. Guests are strongly encouraged to don their white linen while strolling down Julia St. to keep the spirit of White Linen Night alive

A yearly campaign that aims to boost New Orleans restaurants during their slowest months is returning this year with some changes.
Coolinary runs from Aug. 3 through Sept. 15. As in previous years, it offers special two- and three-course lunch menus for $20 or less and three-course dinner and brunch menus for $39 or less at a variety of restaurants across the city.
This year the campaign has opened participation to include delivery and take-out options, as well as counter service restaurants. Many restaurants have pivoted to these services as the COVID-19 pandemic lengthens.
“Our beloved restaurant community has been severely impacted by the pandemic crisis that began during their busiest season and the Coolinary campaign is a wonderful opportunity for us all to contribute to their success.” said Stephen Perry, president and CEO of New Orleans & Company. “The addition of take-out and delivery to the program will help our residents support these establishments in whatever way they feel most comfortable. We hope this is a time where we can rediscover New Orleans’ authentic spirit and fall in love with our hometown again.”

Tammany Taste of Summer returns
Locals and visitors can save on overnight stays, restaurants, and attractions by accessing the free Tammany Taste of Summer Savings Pass from Aug. 4 to Sept. 30.
Participating North Shore restaurants will offer prix fixe menus including Annadele’s, Café Lynn, Ceasar’s Ristorante, Dakota, Forks and Corks, Gallagher’s (Grill, 527 and Front Street), Impastato Cellars, The Lakehouse, and Restaurant Côté.
Other restaurants will offer a special discount on dishes, drinks or meals.
Northshore attractions offering deals include Bayou Adventure, Brooks’ Bike Shop rentals, Cajun Encounters Honey Island Swamp tours, Canoe and Trail Adventures, Culinary Kids, Escapology Covington, Gold Coast Skydivers, Louisiana Tours and Adventures, and 30xNinety Theatre.

Pearl is open for business. We’re very much looking forward to serving each of you again, but we’ve definitely had a tough time with COVID-19 as a business & a team. We won’t get too far into that, as we’re sure many of you have had similarly difficult experiences and just want to get to the other side of this crisis as badly as we do, but we are going to take each step forward with these issues at the forefront of our decision-making, just as we did when we decided to shut the doors for a while. We’ve been here for each other, and now we’re ready to be here for you all again.
Forward motion can be self-defeating, as we are already seeing in quite a few states, so while we may technically be able to do more than this, I think playing it safe and allowing for growth on our terms is going to be the smartest and most durable route forward.
Pearl is going to be open only two days each week, Friday from 2-8 P.M. and Saturday 1-5 P.M. , on those days we will only be fulfilling pre-orders for delivery and curbside pick-up. We will have absolutely no business allowed in the shop.

The AMC chain is reducing seating capacity, requiring staff and guests to wear masks in common areas (guests can removed masks in theaters to eat), offering cashless transactions and providing hand sanitizer and more.

Coronavirus in Louisiana: |
The Louisiana Dept. of Health reported 899 more coronavirus cases, 50 more deaths and 36 fewer hospitalizations in its daily noon update Friday.
Friday is the fifth day in a row with fewer than 1,000 additional cases. The daily updates have averaged above 1,000 cases per day over the last few weeks.
The agency reported 567 more cases Monday, 640 on Tuesday, 778 on Wednesday and 918 on Thursday.

The Broadway premiere of Tennessee Williams’s A Streetcar Named Desire at the Barrymore Theatre in December of 1947 was a seminal moment in American Theater; and Hollywood was quick to capitalize. Despite some unfortunate compromises to adhere to the film industry’s morality codes, Elia Kazan’s 1951 film adaptation is perhaps the best translation of Williams’ work to the screen. Kazan masterfully used the medium of film to enhance the mythic nature of the drama from Blanche emerging from an ethereal mist at the New Orleans train depot, to the clamor of Stanley’s factory as tension builds between he and Mitch, to Mitch ripping off the screen of the Chinese Lantern to expose Blanche in the garish glare of the unfiltered bulb. The film was wonderfully received and rightfully so. It won numerous Academy Awards, but the two figures perhaps most responsible for the film’s success were snubbed: Kazan had a troubled relationship with many of his Hollywood colleagues, and Brando—who was helping to revolutionize the film industry with his use of method acting—lost out to the old guard as Humphrey Bogart took home the Oscar for African Queen.

From King Creole to A Streetcar Named Desire to The Princess and the Frog, Louisiana and its characters have played a starring role throughout cinematic history. Join The Historic New Orleans Collection for a new social-media-driven series called #NolaMovieNight—a group rewatch of a New Orleans-set (or New Orleans-shot) film. Our staff experts will be joined by guest rewatchers to provide historical context, location-spotting, behind-the-scenes tidbits, accent critiques, and lots of participatory fun.
THNOC has long documented Louisiana's star-studded history with film both in exhibitions and through its holdings. #NolaMovieNight offers an opportunity for film lovers (and critics) to gather virtually to share thoughts and observations about various titles from the rich Louisiana filmography.
Here’s how to participate:
1. Follow @visit_thnoc on Twitter. (Engaging on Twitter will provide the best experience, but if you don't have a Twitter account, you can follow our updates below.)
2. Obtain the selected movie or cue up your DVD copy. We’ll provide streaming options.

ST. CLAUDE AVENUE BRIDGE
(LA 46)
|
The left lanes of the St. Claude Avenue Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic (both directions) starting Monday, August 24, 2020, through November 2020. These lane closures are needed for structural and mechanical bridge repairs that cannot be performed while the bridge is operational, and the work has therefore been scheduled to coincide with the Army Corps of Engineers’ repairs of the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Lock, which can only be performed while the Mississippi River is at low elevation and while the Lock is closed to marine traffic.
In addition to the long-term left lane closures, the right lanes of the St. Claude Avenue Bridge will also be closed periodically for short durations of no more than 15 minutes to ensure the safety of workers and motorists during certain bridge repair activities, and these closures will be similar to normal bridge closures for passage of marine vessels.
No closures of the sidewalks or nearby bus stops are anticipated at this time.
We apologize for the inconvenience, and we appreciate your cooperation and patience during this bridge repair project. If you have any questions regarding the St. Claude Bridge construction, please let me know.

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Wine & Food Experience has announced several wine dinners will take place in July, August and September. NOWFE will organize and promote the dinners for each restaurant throughout the summer. Participating restaurants include: Broussard’s Restaurant & Courtyard, Palace Café, GW Fins, Briquette, La Petite Grocery, Tommy’s Cuisine, the Rib Room and Café Reconcile with additional restaurants being added in September to be announced.
“While we were all disappointed that NOWFE was postponed this year, we celebrate the reopening of our beloved restaurants and look forward to gathering together with all socially distant protocols of course,” said Aimee Brown, NOWFE Executive Director. “We hope these dinners will encourage diners to support our local economy and offer a sense of normalcy as we move into the next phases of reopening.”

Building upon their virtual programming, the Sazerac House is now offering Virtual Whiskey Walks, led by House Distiller David Bock and Virtual Drink & Learn sessions led by cocktail historian Elizabeth Pearce, alongside their Virtual Cocktail Workshops. Each session is complimentary, and includes step-by-step instruction on building signature cocktail recipes, alongside historical knowledge and discussions on whiskey distilling.
In addition, during the Whiskey Walk, David Bock will show guests around the Sazerac House distillery, which actively distilling and bottling Sazerac Rye Whiskey.
During Elizabeth Pearce’s “Drink & Learn” sessions, guests will explore specific components of cocktails in depth, first with Punches and a how-to guide to the Planter’s Punch and then with a discussion of Ice and a step-by-step demonstration of the Mint Julep.
The sessions are 45 minutes long, limited to 50 participants and cocktail kits with the ingredients for each cocktail will be available for pre-order and curbside pickup at the Sazerac House, with 10 percent of proceeds going to benefit the Louisiana Hospitality Foundation.

6th Annual Covington Antiques and Uniques Festival – September 5 and 6, 2020
|
The Covington Heritage Foundation will host the 6th Annual Covington Antiques and Uniques Festival, September 5 and 6, at the Covington Trailhead at 419 N. New Hampshire Street in Covington.
The two-day juried free event will showcase more than 50 vendors displaying an eclectic mix of antique furnishings, period collectibles, architectural salvage, and vintage-inspired fine arts and crafts as well as food and live music throughout the weekend.
An added feature to the festival will be the St. Tammany Art Association’s Art Market. Fine art, jewelry, photography, paintings, woodworking, fiber art, pottery and more will be displayed.
The Covington Heritage Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to preserve the city’s culture, character and community. The festival is coordinated with the support of the City’s Department of Cultural Arts and Events. Department Director Aimee Faucheux said as the festival grows and evolves each year, the goal remains the same - to offer a first-class juried event that reflects the unique charm and history of Covington.
“We are thrilled we are able to have the festival this year,” said Faucheux. “We invite everyone to come out and enjoy a good time.”
The festival will be following the 6 ft physical distancing and face mask mandate as required by our Governor at the time of the event.

While state officials are cautiously optimistic there will be some form of limited-capacity fan attendance at LSU games this fall, tailgating before the game may be off-limits to a lot of people.
Tens of thousands of people flood LSU's campus on game days, even if they do not have tickets to the game itself.
"If we can have fans, we are probably going to urge a lot of the people who do not have tickets to the games to not come to the campus,"
For the games themselves, even if they have to limit Tiger Stadium to 30-50 percent of its maximum capacity, they're hopeful that at least some fans will get a seat in Death Valley.
"The wonderful thing about football is that it is outside and we know that this virus does not survive as well outside as it does inside,"
