The Green Project's 25th Anniversary Celebration!
9 AM – 7 PM
2831 Marais St, New Orleans, Louisiana 70117
|
The Green Project began in 1994 as a volunteer paint recycling program after it became apparent that New Orleans needed a responsible alternative to dumping paint and polluting regional waterways. With equity in mind, our founding members sought to recycle usable paint and resell it back into the community at an affordable price. In time, this idea expanded to building materials and our salvage store was born.
This September, we are celebrating 25 years of creative reuse, recycling and protecting the natural world around us! JOIN US!
On September 24th, we're revealing all sorts of surprises and want YOU to join us! We're CELEBRATING with:
- A front of house re-design with murals, a community corner and re-freshed infrastructure
- Launch of the Green Project's handmade merchandise collection (all made with reclaimed materials!)
- Brand new membership program, giving you more perks & deals
- Story sharing from those involved with TGP from 1994 to now!
Who's Invited: YOU!
Customers, members, donors, community partners, past and present TGP staff and board members...everyone is welcome to join us.

ABOUT THE POYDRAS CORRIDOR SCULPTURE EXHIBITION ARTISTS
Lynda Benglis – “Power Tower”
Since the 1960s, Lynda Benglis has been celebrated for the free, ecstatic forms she has made that are simultaneously playful and visceral, organic and abstract. Her work demonstrates an enduring fascination with process and materials. Through her multifarious practice, Benglis continues a long-running investigation of the proprioceptive, sensory experiences of making and viewing her works.
Benglis was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1941. She earned a B.F.A. in 1964 fromNewcomb College in New Orleans, where she studied ceramics and painting, and later went onto study painting at the Brooklyn Museum Art School. Benglis resides in New York, Santa Feand Ahmedabad, India. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and two National Endowment for the Arts grants, among other commendations. Benglis’s work is in extensivepublic collections, including the Guggenheim, New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Art;Museum of Modern Art, New York; the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia; SanFrancisco Museum of Modern Art; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and the Whitney Museumof American Art.
Earl Dismuke – “Dingbat”
Earl Dismuke is a Mississippi-based sculptor who is dedicated to enhancing community life through the power of public art, all the while pursuing his passion of creating his own body of work. He graduated in 2007 from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in sculpture. Earl is a co-founder of the Yokna Sculpture Trail, a bi-annual rotating outdoor sculpture exhibition in Oxford, Miss. He is a recipient of the Mississippi Arts Commission 2019 Visual Arts Fellowship Grant, and a member of the International Sculpture Center. Examples of his work have been included in several international and national exhibitions, including but not limited to, Scope Basel in Basel, Switzerland, Lima, Peru, and several gallery and museum shows. Earl works out of his studio in Oxford, Miss., where he lives with his wife and four children.
Lonnie Holley – “Headed to the Land We Were Promised (Glory)”
Lonnie Holley has devoted his adult life to the practice of improvisational creativity across many media, from visual art, to music and—most recently—film. His film, “I Snuck Off the Slave Ship,” premiered at 2019 Sundance Film Festival. His 2018 album, “MITH,” was critically acclaimed, making lists of the top 10 records of the year in the New Yorkerand Newsweek. Paste magazine has named Holley (along with cultural icons such as Yoko Ono, David Byrne, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Laurie Anderson) as one of the 10 most important artists who crossover between the visual arts and music. Holley’s work has been acquired by, among many other museums, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the American Folk Art Museum, the High Museum of Art, Minneapolis Institute of the Arts, Virginia Museum of Fine Art, Fine Arts Museums ofSan Francisco, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The Phillips Collection and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.

Nevada Barr - What Rose Forgot
|
Join us for a reading and signing with Nevada Barr featuring her new novel,
WHAT ROSE FORGOT
.
In New York Times bestselling author Nevada Barr's gripping standalone, a grandmother in her sixties emerges from a mental fog to find she's trapped in her worst nightmare.
Rose Dennis wakes up in a hospital gown, her brain in a fog, only to discover that she's been committed to an Alzheimer's Unit in a nursing home. With no memory of how she ended up in this position, Rose is sure that something is very wrong. When she overhears one of the administrators saying about her that she's "not making it through the week," Rose is convinced that if she's to survive, she has to get out of the nursing home. She avoids taking her medication, putting on a show for the aides, then stages her escape.
The only problem is—how does she convince anyone that she's not actually demented? Her relatives were the ones to commit her, all the legal papers were drawn up, the authorities are on the side of the nursing home, and even she isn't sure she sounds completely sane. But any lingering doubt Rose herself might have had is erased when a would-be killer shows up in her house in the middle of the night. Now Rose knows that someone is determined to get rid of her.
With the help of her computer hacker/recluse sister Marion, thirteen-year old granddaughter Mel, and Mel's friend Royal, Rose begins to gather her strength and fight back—to find out who is after her and take back control of her own life. But someone out there is still determined to kill Rose, and they're holding all the cards.
NEVADA BARR is a novelist, actor, and artist best known for her New York Times bestselling, award-winning mystery series featuring Anna Pigeon. A former National Park Service Ranger, she currently lives with her husband in Ashland, Oregon, but maintains a home in New Orleans where she lived for a number of years.

Today, the Mississippi River powers a significant segment of the economy in the United States. Barges and their tows move approximately 175 million tons of freight each year on the upper Mississippi through a system of 29 locks and dams. The Mississippi River is one of the world’s major river systems in size, habitat diversity and biological productivity. It is also one of the world's most important commercial waterways and one of North America's great migration routes for both birds and fishes-- While the Mississippi River and its industry is a national issue, Louisiana has the unique perspective of living amidst its ecology and economy.
Nearly 100 arresting black-and-white photographs document the dramatic influence of heavy industry between and along the river’s banks, as well as the sometimes jarring juxtapositions between innovation and decay, the commercial and the residential, and the manmade and the natural.

Winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award.
A vanished father. A pill-popping mother. Three sisters harboring shady little secrets. When the large Weston family unexpectedly reunites after Dad disappears, their Oklahoman family homestead explodes in a maelstrom of repressed truths and unsettling secrets. Mix in Violet, the drugged-up, scathingly acidic matriarch, and you’ve got a major play that unflinchingly—and uproariously—exposes the dark side of the Midwestern American family.

Swirl Wine Bar & Market

New Orleans, LA 70119
Wednesday Night Flights - Charcuterie and Wine Pairing, 5:30 to 7:30 - Join us this Wednesday as meat takes center stage with 4 different charcuterie items from Piece of Meat and Saint James Cheese. While most people think full bodied reds are the way to go with cured meats, we'll show you that it is quite the opposite - when you're having foods like charcuterie that have salt, fat, savory spices and textures that can run the gamut from silky and moist to really, really dry and intense, you've got to look for beverages that are refreshing and can cleanse the palate. That means wines that can be chilled, wines that are low in alcohol and high in acid, sometimes wines that are a little bit sweet, and sometimes wines that have a few bubbles in them. That is really pushing you in a direction more toward white and rosé, fizzy and still and lower alcohol reds. We'll feature 4 charcuterie items from Piece of Meat and St. James Cheese paired with our favorite meat loving wines. Cheese monger Casey Foote will select and present the meat pairing plate ($12 with flight, $18 without the flight). No standing in line for our Wednesday flights - you sit at a table, we come to you and pour tableside complete with lots of educational info on what you are drinking. The flight of 4 wines is $20 - reservations are highly recommended as we can only seat walk-ins if space allows. All wines and cheeses are available for purchase to have at Swirl or you can take them to go.
Friday Free For All, September 27, 6-8PM Anna from Bizou Wines is pouring an amazing lineup of wines made by female winemakers. Plus our friends at
Faubourg Farms
will be dishing out their delicious small plates. The wine tasting is free and open to the public, no reservations required. 6-8PM

The Last Five Years - Rated R Saturday September 14, 2019 to Sunday September 29, 2019 Drama Desk award-winner The Last Five Years is Jason Robert Brown’s intimate window into a couple’s doomed marriage. Cathy, a struggling actress, and Jamie, a budding novelist on the brink of wild success, are 20-somethings in New York who meet, fall in love, marry, and divorce over the span of five years. Cathy tells the story from the end of their marriage; Jamie begins from when they first meet. As the musical unfolds, Cathy moves backward in time to the beginning of the relationship as Jamie moves toward the end; they meet only once, in the middle, at their wedding. Since its Off-Broadway premiere in 2002, Brown’s funny, poignant, and devastatingly honest two-person production has enraptured audiences around the world with its spellbinding and emotional score and libretto. Directed by Cashel Rodriguez with Musical Director Jonathan Sturcken.

Join us every Monday through October for Tarot Card Readings at the brewery with
NOLA Brew Bus
's own
Jesse Lynn Barry
. It will start with a free group reading with some background on the Tarot, leading into individual readings throughout the night. (All readings are donation based)
“Beer has 4 simple ingredients, which can brew so many variations for all our taste buds to enjoy.
And just like beer, there are 4 primal elements motivating the Tarot.
Life is composed of stories and their archetypes. Tarot cards help navigate the stories and help point to “energetic highways” as I like to call it along the way.
With 78 cards within the Thoth Tarot deck and another deck of 63 Spirit Animals, expect a reading unlike any other as I channel the wisdom from the UnKnown into the known.”
Two types of private readings will be offered:
15 minutes : Consult the Tarot for a specific inquiry. A peak into the energy surrounding the inquiry and discover some new perspectives. Recommended Donation: $10-$20
30 minutes : Consult the Tarot and Spirit Animals to guide your inquiry. A deeper peak into the energy surrounding the known and unknown perspectives. Recommended Donation: $25-$35

French Literature Discussion Group Focuses on
Stendhal’s
The Red and the Black
|
The French Literature Discussion Group will discuss Stendhal’s
The Red and the Black
on four Monday nights during the fall of 2019 at the
East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.
Each session is free of charge and is open to the public. There is no registration.
The book is about 525 pages not counting the chronology, introduction and the appendixes. The Penguin Classic version is recommended.
All reading and discussion is conducted in English.
The Red and the Black
focuses on handsome, ambitious Julien Sorel, who is determined to rise above his humble provincial origins. Soon realizing that success can only be achieved by adopting the subtle code of hypocrisy by which society operates, he begins to achieve advancement through deceit and self-interest. His triumphant career takes him into the heart of glamorous Parisian society, along the way conquering the gentle, married Madame de Rênal, and the haughty Mathilde. But then Julien commits an unexpected, devastating crime—and brings about his own downfall.
Stendhal is the pen name of Henri Marie Beyle, who was born in Grenoble in 1783.
The Red and the Black
was his second novel, and he also produced or began three others, including
The Charterhouse at Parma
and
Lucien Leuwen
. None of his published works was received with any great understanding during his lifetime.
