The Green Project began in 1994 as a volunteer paint recycling program after it became apparent that New Orleans needed a responsible alternative to dumping paint and polluting regional waterways. With equity in mind, our founding members sought to recycle usable paint and resell it back into the community at an affordable price. In time, this idea expanded to building materials and our salvage store was born.
This September, we are celebrating 25 years of creative reuse, recycling and protecting the natural world around us! JOIN US!
On September 24th, we're revealing all sorts of surprises and want YOU to join us! We're CELEBRATING with:

AN EVENING WITH LONNIE HOLLEY: CELEBRATING THE NEWEST POYDRAS CORRIDOR SCULPTURE EXHIBITION ARTISTS
Join us to celebrate the newest Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition installations with a public reception and concert on Tuesday, September 24 at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.
This event, hosted by The Helis Foundation and Ogden Museum of Southern Art, will celebrate the installation of five new sculptures along Poydras Corridor by Lynda Benglis, Earl Dismuke, Lonnie Holley, Phil Proctor and Kennedy Yanko.
5 – 6:30 p.m. – Public reception
6:30 – 8 p.m. – Concert with Lonnie Holley, sculptor, artist, musician and creator
Reception guests will also have the opportunity to view ELEPHANT NECKLACE, an exhibition of works by Lynda Benglis, on view at the Ogden Museum September 21 – January 19, 2020.
This event is free and open to the public.
ABOUT THE POYDRAS CORRIDOR SCULPTURE EXHIBITION ARTISTS
Lynda Benglis – “Power Tower”
Since the 1960s, Lynda Benglis has been celebrated for the free, ecstatic forms she has made that are simultaneously playful and visceral, organic and abstract. Her work demonstrates an enduring fascination with process and materials. Through her multifarious practice, Benglis continues a long-running investigation of the proprioceptive, sensory experiences of making and viewing her works.
Benglis was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1941. She earned a B.F.A. in 1964 fromNewcomb College in New Orleans, where she studied ceramics and painting, and later went onto study painting at the Brooklyn Museum Art School. Benglis resides in New York, Santa Feand Ahmedabad, India. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and two National Endowment for the Arts grants, among other commendations. Benglis’s work is in extensivepublic collections, including the Guggenheim, New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Art;Museum of Modern Art, New York; the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia; SanFrancisco Museum of Modern Art; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and the Whitney Museumof American Art.
Earl Dismuke – “Dingbat”
Earl Dismuke is a Mississippi-based sculptor who is dedicated to enhancing community life through the power of public art, all the while pursuing his passion of creating his own body of work. He graduated in 2007 from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in sculpture. Earl is a co-founder of the Yokna Sculpture Trail, a bi-annual rotating outdoor sculpture exhibition in Oxford, Miss. He is a recipient of the Mississippi Arts Commission 2019 Visual Arts Fellowship Grant, and a member of the International Sculpture Center. Examples of his work have been included in several international and national exhibitions, including but not limited to, Scope Basel in Basel, Switzerland, Lima, Peru, and several gallery and museum shows. Earl works out of his studio in Oxford, Miss., where he lives with his wife and four children.
Lonnie Holley – “Headed to the Land We Were Promised (Glory)”
Lonnie Holley has devoted his adult life to the practice of improvisational creativity across many media, from visual art, to music and—most recently—film. His film, “I Snuck Off the Slave Ship,” premiered at 2019 Sundance Film Festival. His 2018 album, “MITH,” was critically acclaimed, making lists of the top 10 records of the year in the New Yorkerand Newsweek. Paste magazine has named Holley (along with cultural icons such as Yoko Ono, David Byrne, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Laurie Anderson) as one of the 10 most important artists who crossover between the visual arts and music. Holley’s work has been acquired by, among many other museums, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the American Folk Art Museum, the High Museum of Art, Minneapolis Institute of the Arts, Virginia Museum of Fine Art, Fine Arts Museums ofSan Francisco, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The Phillips Collection and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.

Italian progressive rock band Goblin performs the soundtrack to horror cult classic "Suspiria", live in the Music Box Village.

opens their 2019 Fall performance season with Italian progressive rock band and soundtrack masters
Goblin
in their first-ever New Orleans performance, who will accompany a full screening of director Dario Argento’s 1977 release,
Suspiria
. The score, written in just 10 days, gave birth to the defining and evocative synth soundtracks made popular by John Carpenter (Halloween), and carried forth in shows like Netflix’s series Stranger Things. This outdoor performance will feature multiple screens and original instruments used in the creation of the soundtrack, in addition to an extended performance by the band.

They also explore and perform music reflecting the members' African, Asian, Eastern European and Jewish roots in concerts around the world. Alex Fiterstein joins the trio in the premiere of a newly-composed work by highly praised composer Viet Cuong.

Chef Nina Compton’s Island Hop Caribbean Dinner Series at Compère Lapin launched September11,2019 and will continue through the end of the month. Diners are invited to embark on a culinary tour through the Caribbean with a series of rotating menus, each week showcasing the authentic unique cuisine from a different island.

, our latest special exhibit that examines the life and work of a French fine-art painter who fought Nazis on several battlegrounds, surviving hand-to-hand combat as a member of the French army at the onset of World War II then the perils of Sword Beach with the Free French Commandos on June 6, 1944. Today, the Mississippi River powers a significant segment of the economy in the United States. Barges and their tows move approximately 175 million tons of freight each year on the upper Mississippi through a system of 29 locks and dams. The Mississippi River is one of the world’s major river systems in size, habitat diversity and biological productivity. It is also one of the world's most important commercial waterways and one of North America's great migration routes for both birds and fishes-- While the Mississippi River and its industry is a national issue, Louisiana has the unique perspective of living amidst its ecology and economy.
Nearly 100 arresting black-and-white photographs document the dramatic influence of heavy industry between and along the river’s banks, as well as the sometimes jarring juxtapositions between innovation and decay, the commercial and the residential, and the manmade and the natural.

Ramsey's Diamond Jewelers and Magic 101.9 present PINK DAT: A Breast Cancer Awareness Month Fundraiser!
Starting September 26th through the month of October, Ramsey's will be selling a $50 Pink Dat Pendant.
The proceeds from this pendant will go to the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans (CAGNO) towards breast cancer patients in the New Orleans area for support during cancer treatment.
CAGNO has served local cancer patients and their families since 1959. Their program has helped more than 550 cancer patients this year. Many of these patients have exhausted their own resources and have nowhere else to turn.
Their patient services program helps cover the costs of prescription pain and treatment medications, transportation, food and personal needs, medical supplies, and other needs.
Ramsey's will host a Pink Dat Party on Thursday, September 26th to kickoff this month of giving. Hors d'oeuvres, desserts, and rosé will be served.

METAIRIE, LA - Diana Watson, a local writer and editor, will lead a newly created writers' group that will be headquartered at the River Ridge Library, 8825 Jefferson Highway, River Ridge.
This group is open to the public and is free of charge. Registration is not required.
Diana Watson is a novelist, poet and writer of short stories. She has one independently published novel, titled Magnificent Maggnom Opus. She also works as a technical writer and she has a small editing business.
The first four sessions of this group will be held at the East Bank Regional Library because the schedule would not allow them to be booked at River Ridge.

This is a winery we have always been fond of for many years. Our Owner, Leora Pearl has visited the winery and now they are coming to us all the way from Willamette Valley, Oregon.
Pinot reigns supreme at Anne Amie Vineyards with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc forming the heart of our production. Complementing the pinot family is Old-Vine Estate Müller Thurgau, planted in 1979.
The vineyards are located in the rolling hills of the Yamhill-Carlton District and on the steep hillsides of the Chehalem Mountains, both nestled in Oregon’s verdant Willamette Valley.

Movies in the Park Series
NEW ORLEANS —
Movies in the Park are fun and safe evenings that bring community members together from all ages for a free event. It’s also a great way to relax outdoors during the fall months. Concessions are available at select events, but moviegoers are encouraged to bring picnics, lawn chairs and blankets.
Before each screening, NORD hosts Zumba Fitness demonstrations led by DBZ Fitness, under the direction of Diobelkis, sponsored by Chevron and NORD FitNOLA. Moviegoers are encouraged to arrive early to participate and visit with neighbors, family and friends. Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. No pets, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, firearms, weapons, smoking or outdoor cooking are allowed during the event.

Rolf VanAnders says that bringing mindfulness to any activity transforms it into a kind of meditation. He says that practicing mindfulness has been proven to help people relax, lower blood pressure, boost the immune system which can optimize health and well-being while enhancing concentration, awareness, learning, memory, cognitive performance, social intelligence, emotional balance, creativity and problem-solving abilities. The daily practice of mindfulness exercises can bring people happiness and elevated quality of life.
Rolf VanAnders is on staff at the LSUHSC Medical Center as a mind-body fitness coordinator and program design, personal trainer, and instructor in the field of mindfulness-based stress reduction as mind/body medicine and wellness exercise.
VanAnders is also a graphic artist, writer, interior designer and landscape artist.

The French Literature Discussion Group will discuss Stendhal’s
The Red and the Black
on four Monday nights during the fall of 2019 at the

The book is about 525 pages not counting the chronology, introduction and the appendixes. The Penguin Classic version is recommended.
All reading and discussion is conducted in English.

GUINNESS WORLD RECORDSTM Medallion – This polished brass finish commemorative medallion is stamped with the “Official Attempt” logo and includes a navy blue lanyard, printed on one side with the “Official Attempt” words and logo in white.
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDSTM Certificate of Participation, provided day of event only, if record is achieved. The Certificate of Participation is a great way to show how you earned your place in the record books! The certificate measures 5.83″ x 8.27″ and is embossed with an exclusive GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS foil stamp substantiating its authenticity. The personalized Certificate of Participation will be presented in a commemorative GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS folder. –At time of purchase, please list name exactly as you wish it to appear on certificate.–
Due to licensing restrictions, event gifts cannot be mailed; they are offered only for pick up the day of the event. All items except the Certificate of Participation will be presented prior to the Second Line procession. The certificate is available for pickup immediately following the event.
