NATIONAL CHAI DAY | SEPTEMBER 21
On September 21st, the aroma filling the room comes from ancient spices, perfectly steeped into a cup of delicious tea. National Chai Day celebrates the strong, satisfying tea that is ordered at cafes across the country.
While the Indian beverage dates back nearly 5,000 years, the chai served in homes and coffee shops today comes in many forms. For traditional chai, steep it with black tea leaves. Add whole milk for the richest flavor. Some even prefer almond or coconut milk. The most common spice in chai is cardamom. Though blends will vary from place to place, other spices include cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, and fennel. Finally, sweeten the tea with pure sugar.
This time of year, we can’t resist the creamy, sweet combination, either! So, wrap your hands around a warm cup and let the aromatic steam permeate your senses. One sip will tell you how enjoyable National Chai Day is going to be!

ANNOUNCING CULTURE COLLISION 12!
ANNUAL FREE ARTS & CULTURE SHOWCASE RETURNS IN 2022 AFTER A TWO-YEAR HIATUS
WWNO 89.9 FM and Jefferson Performing Arts Society are partnering to bring back Culture Collision! After a two-year pandemic hiatus, Culture Collision 12 returns on Wednesday, September 21, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Jefferson Performing Arts Center in Metairie. The last Culture Collision event was held in August 2019.
Culture Collision is an annual showcase for nonprofit arts and cultural organizations in the New Orleans metro-area. Ranging from the city’s classic arts institutions to its resourceful contemporary newcomers, this happy hour event reflects the diversity of the region’s creative community. The event is free and open to the public—and for this “comeback year”, the fee for organizations to reserve a display table have been waived. Over 60 local arts and culture companies are expected to join, with several of the participating organizations presenting live entertainment.
“From its beginning in 2008, Culture Collision’s aim has been to introduce all kinds of art and cultural activity to people from all parts of the metro area,” said WWNO General Manager, Paul Maassen. “WWNO is delighted that Culture Collision 2022 will carry on this mission and highlight our region’s newest investment in the arts, the Jefferson Performing Arts Center.”
This beloved community arts event is making its debut in Jefferson Parish after over a decade in New Orleans, where it was held at renowned cultural venues such as The National World War Two Museum, The Contemporary Arts Center (CAC), The Ogden Museum, and New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA).
In July 2022, Jefferson Performing Arts Society was named as the new managers of Jefferson Performing Arts Center. “Our hosting of Culture Collision aligns with our goal to build a wider array of presentations and programming at this gorgeous gem of a venue. We look forward to welcoming arts and cultural organizations of all genres and their audiences here in September to show them all that we have to offer and to let them know that our doors are always open to new opportunities and partnerships,” said Todd Simmons, General Manager of Jefferson Performing Arts Center and Executive Director of Jefferson Performing Arts Society.
Jefferson Performing Arts Center is located at 6400 Airline Drive near the former Zephyr Stadium, not far from the Saints training camp and next to LaSalle Park. Each year on September 21st, people across the United States celebrate National Pecan Cookie Day.
This delicious cookie can be eaten and enjoyed morning, noon and night. If you’re a pecan snacker, another pecan related celebration is National Pecan Day on April 14.
Pecan is an Algonquian word, meaning “a nut requiring a stone to crack.” A member of the hickory family, the pecan is native to central and southern United States.
One of the best ways to enjoy the celebration is by having freshly baked pecan cookies straight from the oven. Add a cold glass of milk to wash it down, and you’ll have found near perfection. Joining a friend while savoring the buttery goodness is even better. The variety of recipes for soft or firm cookies astounds most bakers. The toasted nuts and sugary sweetness melts in your mouth, keeping you coming back for more. They delight, and when stored properly, they stay fresh, too. This one-of-a-kind celebration pays tribute to the empowered group of women who stormed the Sazerac Bar in 1949 demanding equality and a stiff drink. This event made the Sazerac Bar the first bar in New Orleans to allow women on days other than Mardi Gras. “Storming of the Sazerac” encompasses libations, cuisine and entertainment, including:

Following the Blue Room festivities, our Reigning Spirit of the Sazerac will lead attendees in a second line to “storm” the world-renowned Sazerac Bar, where the spirited day continues with Sazerac cocktails in-hand.

The main event begins at 8:30 pm and continues until 11 pm, featuring music and dancing with Sam Price & The True Believers, food stations by Dickie Brennan & Co., and refreshing specialty cocktails and libations provided by Sazerac New Orleans. City of New Orleans’ Department of Sanitation announced that the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Center, located at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave., will be open weekly on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. This temporary shift from bi-weekly drop off is in response to a higher demand for recycling while curbside collection is suspended.

ESPN TO TELEVISE LSU-AUBURN GAME AT 6 P.M. NEXT SATURDAY
LSU’s game next week against Auburn will kickoff at 6 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN, the Southeastern Conference announced on Monday.
The Auburn contest serves as the first road SEC game for the Tigers and head coach Brian Kelly.
It will mark LSU’s first night game at Auburn since 2016 when the Tigers dropped an 18-13 decision in Jordan-Hare Stadium. LSU and Auburn meet in Jordan-Hare Stadium on CBS in both 2018 and 2020.
LSU hosts New Mexico this week, while Auburn hosts Missouri at 11 a.m. on the SEC Network.

Not every bone is a drummer, and not every bone is a krafter, but somewhere in the middle you too can become BONE again with skinz n bonez krewe as we gear up for Krewe of Boo.
upcoming expenses have changed for this roll with the city and walking krewes will be asked to pay a ten dollar fee to help with sanitation and police costs in order to roll. Come join us and find our mini fundraiser in the back, enjoy our cabaret styled entertainment up front, and get your face painted by our artists to see if you are a good fit to be a wishbone. The proceeds will go to fund the krewes contribution to Krewe Of Boo Parade.
And maybe you become one of us. New Members roll with us and assist with banner, security, giving out throws, and watering the drummers when needed. Krewe of Boo is one of our favorite rolls of the season, so join us at madame vic's as we bring you our brand of musical performances.

The classic car people and the shop owners will be handing out goodies accordingly, plus live music at local venues. Shops and restaurants open late, too. 6 pm–9 pm. Free. The Kiwanis Club of Greater Covington will be out in full force, selling hamburgers, hot dogs, beverages, and snacks to raise funds for its many charitable efforts. “ Our block party brings people from across a Tri-Parish area, to show and see classic cars. The series includes a diverse lineup of notable speakers and business leaders discussing current trends, local and regional insights, and best practices for operating a business.
Registration for the full Grow St. Bernard series is $100 per attendee and includes access to all six sessions and the option to receive one-on-one business mentoring provided by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center. Registration for a single session is $25 per attendee. The Grow St. Bernard Session series takes place from August 9, 2022 through October 18, 2022. All sessions begin with coffee, networking, and a light breakfast at 8:30 AM.

returns to Lafayette Square Park (602 St. Charles Ave.) in New Orleans for its 15th edition on October 14-16, 2022.
The festival will be held on Friday, October 14 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, and Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16 from 11:00am to 8:30pm.
Charlie Musselwhite and Ruthie Foster will top the bill at the festival, which is presented by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, the nonprofit that owns Jazz Fest. Admission is free and open to the public.
The Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival is an award-winning event, featuring two stages of music, a large selection of the best barbecue vendors in the region and a local arts market.
The festival will be held on Friday, October 14 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, and Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16 from 12:00pm to 8:30pm.
Performers at the 2022 edition include Charlie Musselwhite, Ruthie Foster, Robert Finley, Walter Wolfman Washington, Kenny Neal, Mr. Sipp, Jon Cleary, Johnny Sansone, Little Freddie King, Trudy Lynn, Mia Borders, Mem Shannon & the Membership, Joy Clark, Eric Johanson, Layla Musselwhite, Dk Harrel, Kevin & the Blues Groovers, and Wolfe Johns Blues Band.
The Blues & BBQ Festival was last held in-person in 2019 before the COVID pandemic. In 2020, the festival was produced online by the Foundation and its radio station, WWOZ 90.7 FM New Orleans, as “Blues Festing in Place.”
