NOVEMBER, 2020
TOWN OF LAGRANGE PARKS AND RECREATION
|
|
Hi, LaGrange Community and Guests!
Congratulations to the winners of the Name Our Newsletter contest! Was it you? Be sure to find out below and check back for other contests we'll be holding throughout the year!
October felt like a whirlwind. I was honored to be the guest speaker at the LaGrange Sunshine Rotary's monthly breakfast where my vision for the future of all things parks and recreation in the town of LaGrange was greatly received with offers of support. Planning three successful, separate, safe events in one day is no joke but our team pulled it off with our first ever BOO BASH! at Freedom Park. The highlight of the month, however, and my career, was being able to celebrate National Boss’s Day with my staff! Have I mentioned how thankful I am to lead this team and be a part of this department and the LaGrange community?
"Leadership is about empowering others to achieve things
they did not think possible." -Simon Sinek
We've been working hard to bring you events that are safe and meet the guidelines currently set in place due to Covid. Some traditional events may look a little different going forward but I have a team whose hard work and perseverance to help bring recreation to this community successfully is making the magic happen! Be sure to mark your calendars for the upcoming events we have in store for you.
As we welcome November, you might notice upgrades happening throughout our parks... a new gate at Freedom Park and several upgrades to Stringham Park and our baseball fields at LaGrange Park. Though summer is over, our parks crew continues to work hard to bring out the best in all of our LaGrange parks!
I'll end with a thank you to all of you who have completed our surveys or reached out to us through social media, email or by phone. Your feedback allows us to plan and make improvements to our future events. And trust me when I say, we've got a lot to come.
We are listening, LaGrange!

We had so much fun going through the entries for this contest! You really got creative, LaGrange, and it was difficult to narrow them down to just one. Some were perfect names for a town newspaper while others had us laughing and cracking jokes for days like "Treat Yo' Self LaGrange". Bragging rights to whoever can name that reference!
In the end, we had to go with what made the most sense for the objective of the newsletter which is to keep the community up to date on what's happening out in our parks and recreation opportunities throughout LaGrange. Patricia will receive a $25 Amazon gift card in the mail!
All suggestions were entered into a Facebook live drawing on Friday October 30th. Laureen will also receive a $25 Amazon card in the mail!
Thanks to everyone who participated!

STATIONARY FLOATS/LIGHT DISPLAYS WANTED!
|
|
We are unable to have our annual parade this year but we are excited to announce that we have something safe, exciting, and different in the works for our LaGrange community this holiday season!
What is a Drive Thru Edition?
Instead of attendees watching as the floats go by as in a typical parade, the floats and light displays will be stationary and attendees will drive through to enjoy all of the lighted magic!
We are looking to local organizations such as businesses, non-profits, clubs, teams, schools and municipal departments to be an integral part of this spectacular holiday event coming to LaGrange this December! We need YOU to make this community event a success... to help spread joy, hope and light to our beloved town who needs it now more than ever before.
We are accepting stationary float/light display applications now!
Registration for LaGrange residents will be required. Watch for registration dates coming soon!
Please call the Parks and Recreation office at 845-452-1972 or email recreation@lagrangeny.gov with any questions!

LAGRANGE BOO BASH! AT FREEDOM PARK

We couldn't host our Fall Festival this year so we zigged instead of zagged and LaGrange Boo Bash! was born! We hosted three separate, Covid-safe events on Saturday: a Concert In the Park, StoryWalk Hikes through Little Woods, and Hocus Pocus under the stars. All three events were great successes and all the smiling faces and positive feedback were enough to get our exhausted selves up and back at it planning our winter events on Monday. Thank you, LaGrange for always motivating us to push ourselves!

FREEDOM PLAYGROUND RECOGNITION
|
|
Though our beautiful, new playground at Freedom Park has been open since July, we've been unable to have a ribbon cutting due to gathering restrictions. "Sliding" into fall with the Boo Bash! this past Saturday felt like the perfect time to host an official pre-event recognition.
Members of the LaGrange Town Board and Recreation Advisory Committee, along with Jeff from KOMPANPlaygrounds, and past Parks and Recreation Director, Sandy Washburn, who led the project, joined Courtney to talk about the this beautiful addition to our .
"The new playground provides children over a wide range of ages not only a fun environment, but planned spaces that engage physical, creative, cognitive and social skill development," - Michael Polasek.

Our parks team works hard behind the scenes and does much more than just keep our parks and community looking their best! We've dedicated a section of our newsletter to keep you posted on just some of the work, special projects, shout outs, and things you may not know about our awesome parks team!

LAGRANGE RECREATION - YOUTH SPORTS
|
|
The LaGrange Soccer Club season is off to a great start and everyone is happy to be back out on the pitch!
|
|
The Lagrange Youth Baseball/Softball League is pleased to announce the completion of their abbreviated summer and fall 2020 seasons. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the league was not able to have a safe 2020 spring season.
Thanks to the hard work of our board led by President Ray Cavallo, a committee was set up to come up with safety procedures for a summer/fall 2020 season. Under the direction of board members Eric Moglin, Craig Gloede, Regina Sokolik, Chris Basso, Kurt Beale, Tim Doyle and Kevin Loescher, the committee came up with a safe and secure plan to allow the kids to play and families to enjoy some normalcy during these difficult times. The league is pleased to say we managed to get in 8 full weeks of summer play and 9 weeks of fall play with only 1 rainout.
Please look out for early registration in December for spring 2021. The Lagrange Youth Baseball/Softball League is committed to continue these safety precautions as long as needed into 2021 and look forward to seeing all the boys and girls come out and play some baseball and softball in the spring of 2021!

Arlington LaGrange Lacrosse Club would like to thank all of the parents, players, and volunteer coaches that helped to make our 6 Sunday fall clinics a success this year. We had roughly 72 players in grades K-8 register and attend the free clinics.
We would also like to introduce our current board members to the community: Robert Dichiara (Treasurer), Zach Basso (Alumni/Community Relations and Secretary), Robert Falcone (Equipment Manager), Patrick Keevins (Girls Director), Evan Doherty (Boys Director), Chad Jones (Arlington High School Boys Varsity Coach).
ALLC is also always looking for community members that have a lacrosse background and would like to assist in coaching in the spring of 2021. If you are interested please contact Evan Doherty: edoherty018@gmail.com.
Normally ALLC would offer some clinic opportunities in the winter months but this year is difficult due to lack of indoor space rental options. But please check our soon to be updated website for winter clinic opportunities as this may change.
If you are interested in receiving emails and updates from ALLC and our events please contact Zach Basso: zachbasso@gmail.com to be added to our email list.
We will be having on-line registration starting at the end of January for our Spring season which will hopefully kick-off near the end of March. This registration will be done through our website. This spring we will be offering opportunities for both boys and girls in grades K-8.
Thank you for supporting Arlington Lacrosse,
ALLC Board and Club Members

Unfortunately, due to Covid and restricted gym usage, there will be no basketball league or clinics this year.
