December 1, 2019

Dear LaGuardia Families -

As your lovely holiday weekend draws to end, we hope you feel satisfied, refreshed and fortified for the whirlwind of activities that await in the coming weeks! In addition to the upcoming student performances, exhibitions and general amazing arts-related activities, we want to highlight two more items...1) It's that time of year as we kick off this week with Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday (DonorsChoose with a 50% match, Facebook- $7 Million Match and Fairway's 6% cash donation to LaG)! We encourage you to participate as you scroll through the many options. 2) Deadlines for Spring and Summer programs are approaching - many December deadlines among them! A number of programs are free or offer financial aid! Please do scroll down and see what could be a good match for your student!

FINDING YOUR COLLEGE!
Lists & Surveys

It's important to find the right mix of colleges to which to apply - these lists may help - but as with everything, we recommend using multiple sources to build your student's list.

Georgetown University - Center on Education & the Workforce
Using data from the expanded College Scorecard, this report ranks 4,500 colleges and universities by return on investment.  A First Try at ROI: Ranking 4,500 Colleges  finds that bachelor's degrees from private colleges, on average, have higher ROI than degrees from public colleges 40 years after enrollment. Community colleges and many certificate programs have the highest returns in the short term, 10 years after enrollment, though returns from bachelor's degrees eventually overtake those of most two-year credentials. DonorsChoose is a nonprofit organization that allows private individuals to donate to public school classroom projects. LaGuardia teachers post many project requests on DonorsChoose throughout the school year for one simple reason: the NYC Department of Education does not provide many of the materials, technology and other essentials that make LaGuardia great.
DonorsChoose donations are eligible for most employers' matching gift programs.

Parents and guardians of NYC public school kids can be eligible for FREE Wi-Fi at home through The New York Public Library's Library HotSpot program, designed for patrons without home internet.
