January 27, 2019
Dear LaGuardia Families -
We hope that Regents Week was both productive and relaxing for your student (and you!). We're not quite back to a 5-day school week, but 4-days is certainly headed in the right direction... And what a direction it is - we urge you to read through this issue of SNN to make sure you've got a sense of all the activities happening at LaGuardia for our students (and for us!)
This issue exemplifies what means the most to us in the Parents Association: Supporting our students in their craft in as many ways as we can: by raising money, volunteering at and attending student productions and art shows, financially supporting student initiatives and supporting health and wellness initiatives at LaGuardia.

STUDENT LITERARY MAGAZINE GOES TO PRINT WITH YOUR GENEROSITY
A note from the Editor in Chief, Lola Simon: "Lag Mag is a student-run literary arts magazine. We were founded in 2010 and have been actively publishing magazines ever since as a way for students to express themselves outside of a classroom setting and showcase their diverse talents. In 2012, we created an online version of our magazine which made it more accessible to a wider audience. This has also allowed more people to submit their work. Our magazine includes a variety of the best submitted work including art, photography, poetry, and other forms of writing. Our magazine is open for submission to all LaGuardia students regardless of their major. This is what makes Lag Mag a unique and important aspect of our community.
The LaG Mag team is so grateful for the PA's generous support in helping us print our first issue of the 2018/19 school year. The issue's theme, 'Primary', will be reflected in everything from poems to short stories and artwork."

LaGuardia Online Auction 2019
Our Online Auction is quickly approaching! This is one of our biggest school-wide fundraisers of the year. The money raised goes to help support all studios, teachers & students. We are in need of MORE donations to help make this a success. This week we are focusing on
restaurants and retail establishments.
Please ask the places that you frequent if they would support our school
. Most people say yes! You can even email them and attach the donation form. So just ask your local businesses. Every little bit helps. Thanks for your continued support!"

Winter Sports season runs from November thru March and includes Basketball, Gymnastics and Indoor Track for both Boys and Girls teams.
Congratulations to our LaGuardia Girls and Boys teams for taking part in the Martin Luther King Games at the Fort Washington Armory on 1/21/19. Both teams did their best, as we had Kyla Parker, Geraldine Rojas and Stella Breen running in the 600m and Arden Brown and Nicole Landeta doing an outstanding job in the 1500m. The boys had one Freshman 4 by 200m relay team which comprised of Tyler Klenis, Aiden Islam, Mathew Urraca and Jake Appelbaum and they finished 6th place in 1:57:00. The boys also had Wyatt Moe doing the 55m and Noah Trimmer, Nolan Schaefer and Tyson Keller doing the 1600m
Both the girls and the boys have the same schedule left for the season. We have the PSAL Manhattan Borough championships at the Armory track on Sunday, February 3rd, with the boys start at 9:00 AM and the girls at 12:30 PM. We also have the PSAL Invitational at Ocean Breeze Track and Field complex on Tuesday February 5th which is Chinese New Year and holiday, with the boys starting at 9:00 AM and the girls at 1:00 PM. If the teams do well within the next 2 meets then we might qualify for the City Championships on 2/16/19. Our last Indoor track meet of the season will be the PSAL Freshman Sophomore City Championships at the armory on Sunday, March 3rd. The girls and boys start times are the same which is 8:30 AM
Mandatory baseball meeting on February 1st for all interested players. Tryout dates will be announced at this meeting. The official starting date for the season is March 1st. At tryouts, students will have an opportunity to swing in the batting cage and throw off of our mound. Depending on the weather, we will have at least one tryout outside, possibly two.
ANY STUDENT TRYING OUT MUST HAVE A COMPLETED PSAL MEDICAL FORM AND A COMPLETED PSAL PARENT CONSENT FORM.
No student is allowed to tryout without these two forms, NO EXCEPTIONS.
Please note that we will be conducting official tryouts for both boys and girls Outdoor track teams on February 25th Please reach out to Coach Hackett for the girls and Coach Ocampo for the boys or even our captains Carol Nieves and Noah Timmer. Even if you get through to one of us about either boys or girls, that is prefect as we work cohesively to make our program stronger.

DonorsChoose is a nonprofit organization that allows private individuals to donate to public school classroom projects. LaGuardia teachers post many project requests on DonorsChoose throughout the school year for one simple reason: the NYC Department of Education does not provide many of the materials, technology and other essentials that make LaGuardia great.
DonorsChoose donations are eligible for most employers' matching gift programs.
