Issue 26
March 10, 2019
Dear LaGuardia Families,

Definitely a week of March Madness!   Time is in short supply around here! Just when our calendar of events is truly bursting at the seams, moving to local daylight time and losing an hour of sleep isn't the most welcome occurrence, but adrenaline will see us through!

We encourage you to plan ahead and make sure that the events you want to attend are on your calendar. You can plan ahead and buy tickets now at laguardiahs.tix.com.

Before we continue any further with upcoming events, let's acknowledge our amazing LaG Annual Benefit Team for their incredibly hard work that culminated in a wonderful evening. Thank you - and thank you again!   The rescheduled  Broadway Singalong Annual Benefit was so lovely - the Little Flower Theater setting was intimate, casual and essentially a perfect venue in which to see Broa dway performers on-stage with our LaGuardia students.  The warmth of the performers and the multiple video shout-outs from casts of current Broadway shows, created a real "insiders evening."  Thank you for your support and participation.  We're still selling tickets to our  amazing raffles, so it's not too late to get in on these one-of-a-kind opportunities! Please scroll down for more information.

Broadway Singalong's Cast with our wonderful MC Paula Leggett Chase

Over the weekend please say that you attended a performance of Opera Workshop and the Pit Orchestra's The Mystery of Edwin Drood - what a class act!  Did you solve the mystery?
Congratulations to the cast, orchestra, crew, teachers, conductor and everyone involved in making this production a truly spectacular theatrical event!  A very special shoutout to the Music Student parents and all of the volunteers for your ingenious marketing and tenacious support of our students.  I attended two shows and was delighted to experience two VERY different endings! Raffle tickets are still available - scroll down for how to purchase!

Faculty and Staff Luncheon Sponsored by the Parents Association

Special thanks also to the cafeteria and custodial staff for making sure that we had a sparkling cafeteria in which to receive our teachers.

SPRING DRAMA FESTIVAL

The Last Days of Judas Iscariot
Performances March 21st to 24th

If you're not familiar with The Spring Drama Festival, it's essentially the final project for Senior Drama students - the culmination of their four years of study at LaGuardia.  There are three productions - traditionally a musical, a comedy and a drama.  We assure you that the quality of these productions rivals that of any local theater group - and some may even say they're as good as Broadway! Just do it - we encourage you to attend at least one performance of the show of your choice. Plan a night out - invite some friends and go to dinner before the show.

Mark Your Calendars!
The Last Days of Judas Iscariot - March 21-24
Pride & Prejudice - April 11-14
Two Gentlemen of Verona - May 30-June 2

DonorsChoose

The LaGuardia Community has donated
over  $396,932 so far!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!

Demos, Demos, Ooh La La
Ms. O'Keefe is looking to give her students a more exciting chemistry experience by participating in and viewing more demonstrations! These demos deal with electrolysis, acid/base chemistry, equilibrium, solutions, and electrochemistry.   A fter all, seeing is believing! Instead of watching videos on Youtube of other people doing these experiments, we will do them in the classroom!
For more information and donations, please click here!

Information about Mr. Rahman's new request to provide
demonstration kits for chemistry is available here!

DonorsChoose is a nonprofit organization that allows private individuals to donate to public school classroom projects. LaGuardia teachers post many project requests on DonorsChoose throughout the school year for one simple reason: the NYC Department of Education does not provide many of the materials, technology and other essentials that make LaGuardia great.

DonorsChoose donations are eligible for most employers' matching gift programs. bit.ly/dcmatch
