September 9, 2018
Dear LaGuardia Families,
Welcome back everyone! And a very warm welcome to all new families--it was a pleasure to meet some of you during orientation. Even though it's hard to believe those long, carefree days of summer have come and gone, we're very excited to have you all join us for a great academic year.
For the uninitiated, you'll soon get used to hearing from us regularly--through our weekly Sunday Night News and other mailers during the week. We'll introduce you to ways to navigate the LaGuardia resources such as Naviance (more on this later), remind you of important deadlines and when and where to buy tickets to the many fabulous performances and art show openings. We also host monthly PA and Studio meetings and an Academic Forum to share even more news you can use. If you know of any newcomers who may not have signed up to join our mailing list, please encourage them to do so by clicking here. We don't want any one to miss out!
We're an enthusiastic and dedicated community that's commited to making sure LaGuardia remains an incredible and unique haven for our artists and scholars. And guess what? We need you to help! There are lots of ways to get involved with the Parents Association. We'll be sharing these volunteer opportunities with you at our first meeting on September 25 at 6:00 p.m., with the Studio meetings following at 7:00 p.m. To get a jump start, you can email us if you're interested in the job opportunities described in our "Help Wanted" section below, or sign up here: www.laguardiahspa.org/volunteer. We'd like to give a special shout out to freshman parents who heeded our summertime call for volunteers. Please keep up the enthusiasm and bring along a few friends.
Here are some things to look for in our Sunday Night News in the following weeks:
We're open to parent ideas for continuing to make LaGuardia the best, most inclusive, most supportive school community in NYC. Please always feel free to contact us if you have any ideas to share to advance this goal.
- Fundraising: How to help us raise money 24 hours a day 7 days a week (we're not shy about raising $$ and you shouldn't be either!)
- A "College Corner" for seniors and juniors.
- A "Wellness Corner" for ways our teens can keep mind and body healthy
- Extracurricular Opportunities for our teens and much more. You'll also find some more useful information, plus news about one of our alums by scrolling down.
Here's to another wonderful school year! We look forward to seeing you soon.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
DonorsChoose is a nonprofit organization that allows private individuals to donate to public school classroom projects. LaGuardia teachers post many project requests on DonorsChoose throughout the school year for one simple reason: the NYC Department of Education does not provide many of the materials, technology and other essentials that make LaGuardia great.
In the past three years, 100% of our faculty's requests have been funded by parents and other generous supporters.
DonorsChoose donations are eligible for most employers' matching gift programs.
