From Your Council Key-3

John M. Cary, Scout Executive/ CEO
Dear Scouting Family,

The Boy Scouts of America continues to carefully monitor the rapidly evolving situation regarding COVID-19. With that in mind all LaSalle Council and District events have been postponed until after Monday, April 13, 2020. This difficult decision does not come lightly. This is a necessary step to help protect our Scouts, our families, and our community.

Currently the Scout office and Scout Shop will remain open with limited staff. As much as possible our staff will be working remotely, so if you need to speak with someone specific, please call ahead to make sure they will be there.

Obviously, this is an ever-changing situation. If it is recommended or we find that this needs to change we will notify you as soon as possible via email and the council website: www.lasallecouncilbsa.org .

NOTICE – If you have a fever, cough or other symptoms associated with COVID-19, or if you believe you may have been exposed to COVID-19, you should isolate and not attend any Scouting events. Please contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Rescheduled Events and Activity Dates:

New dates for activities and events may not have been set. As soon as this is completed, we will notify everyone through email and the council website.

Summer Resident Camps/Day Camps:

This cancellation does not currently involve any summer camp, resident camp or day Camp program offerings. We continue to prepare for a great summer camp and look forward to welcoming our Scouting families this summer

We want you to know that all our camps meet or exceed the National Camp Accreditation Program standards for on-site health officers and medical rechecks prior to camp. This includes supervision of policies and procedures by our Council Physician.

This is a changing situation and if it is warranted closer to camp, our Council Risk Management and Board will make additional recommendations regarding sanitation procedures, changes in how we operate to improve “social distancing” at camp, and increased education to our campers and staff.

Camperships:

The LaSalle Council will extend the earlybird registration period for Summer Camps, Day Camps, Webelos and Cub Resident Camp to May 1st, 2020.  For more information on camperships, please visit:

Unit Meetings:

Decisions about unit meetings and activities should be made by unit leadership and chartering organizations/meeting location sponsors, based on the unit’s individual circumstances.

Parents:

With many schools cancelling, your Scouts are going to have a lot of time on their hands. We encourage you to work with them on their Scouting program. There are Cub Scout adventures that can be completed at home with the help of a parent and many different merit badges that can be started by members of the Scouts BSA now and finished with a counselor a little later.
