It is indeed the last week of the MN State Fair, and what a blast it's been so far! Lefse beer, grilled peaches, and folks coming out in record numbers! Kicking off September, Taylor Swift will be performing two nights in a row at U.S. Bank Stadium. Did you know T. Swift's favorite beverage is Vodka and Diet Coke? Maybe this isn't your jam. That's alright, September is one of our favorite months here at North Loop Wine and Spirits. It marks the beginning of Oktoberfest beer season, it's National Bourbon Month, and ALL OF OUR NEW RED WINES START ARRIVING! Whatever your beverage of choice may be, one thing we can all agree on, is how great a THREE DAY WEEKEND IS. We have you covered with any last minute libations you need for that impromptu get together with friends. Don't forget to swing through for our wine tastings!

Dave's Pick :
2016 Chateau Bianca Pinot Gris
As we head into September and cool, bright days mix with hot humid one's,the weather can create schizophrenic wine cravings. One day it's Vinho Verde the next it's Napa Cabernet. Wines from the Pinot family, both white and red, tend to fit nicely in the pocket between the two. Chateau Bianca uses hand-harvesting, whole cluster pressing and cool fermentation to preserve primary fruit aromas and flavors in their Pinot Gris while not shying away from the richness associated with ripe versions of this grape. That is no easy feat. It's all to common to end up with a wine that is thin without personality or rich without structure. This wine gets right to the sweet spot. It's a bit richer and a bit softer then a typical summer white but doesn't come off flabby or unfocused. The added weight makes it a welcome accompaniment to richer foods that will overwhelm most Sauvignon Blancs, so bring on the roast chicken and root veg. -$18.99
Ray's Pick:
2010 Korta Katarina Plavac Mali
Did you know Zinfandel is originally from Croatia? Fun fact! and one of its descendants is known as Plavac Mali. This particular Plavac Mali comes from Korta Katarina, owned by a Minnesota based family on the Peljesac Peninsula. This is a serious wine meant to age, but they do that for you! Currently the wine is in its peak, showing dried fruit, sichuan pepper, and bold tannin. Drink now or cellar for 5 more years.   -$21.99
Patti's Pick :
2016 Mas Buscados "Los Tres Pacos"
Playful, it's the perfect "anytime" wine. This 95% Tempranillo, 5% Petit Verdot blend is sourced from three wine grape growers - all named Paco! "Los Tres Pacos" all grow their grapes in the Castilla - La Mancha region of Spain. Mas Buscados, which translates to "Most Wanted," leads with a punch of juicy bramble fruit and finishes with a little kick of spice. We promise not to put your mugshot on the bottle, but it would be criminal to miss out on this steal of a wine.  -$12.99
Madison's Pick :
2017 La Boutanche Gamay
This falls into my category of “Tuesday night wine” which also looks a lot like wine to bring to a BBQ, wine to rehydrate with during a softball game, wine to bring to a party where you need to provide for a group but don’t want to spend too much but you still want to bring something you’ll drink yourself. Oh, also… this is a screw-top liter full of natty (natural) wine at a great price. La Boutanche is a project between Selection Massale and a few different winemakers - this particular bottle comes to us via Beaujolais producer Olivier Minot. Its is somewhere between light and medium body, full of raspberries and strawberries, soft and chuggable. This wine meets the usual natty wine requirements - native yeast fermentation, zero additives, little or no SO2 addition, unfined and unfiltered. In the words of Selection Massale themselves - this is “pure unadulterated glou glou”. -$23.99
**Just in case you were paying attention - this was Doug's pick two weeks ago, but we like it so much that we wrote it up again!
Patrick's Pick:
2015 Pedroncelli Cabernet Sauvignon, Three Vineyards
Aromas of dark berries, dried herbs, and earthy tones start this medium bodied cabernet off before soft tannins fall on the palate. Primary notes of cherry and blackberry, wrap around hints of oregano and bay leaf, finishing with just a touch of spicy oak, defining this very approachable cabernet from the Pedroncelli family's Three Vineyards property.
Celebrating 90 years as a family owned and operated winery in Sonoma, the Pedroncelli family was responsible more than anyone for the growth and establishment of Dry Creek. Known for helping other wine makers in the region since the founder's son, John Pedroncelli, ran the winery as wine maker from 1948 to his death in 2015, the family is an important link from the local farming past to the modern age of global wine making. Robert Parker said it best: "Dollar-for-dollar the Pedroncelli wines consistently offer both character and quality for their prices, something consumers should never forget." Enjoy this cabernet with roast beef sandwiches from the iconic Dry Creek General Store! -$21.99
