Driven to Divide
Friday, August 30th 6:30 PM

In the summer of 2013, aboard a singlespeed mountainbike, Alabamian Scott Thigpen embarked on the Tour Divide: a solo, self-supported ultra-cycling challenge to race all 2,745 miles of Adventure Cycling Association's epic Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. Thigpen encountered no compulsory rest periods or specified distances he had to cover daily. The race clock ran non-stop. With an average time-to-completion of three weeks in the saddle, this grand tour is the longest, most challenging mountain bike race on the planet. It's a contest for the ultra-fit but only if ultra-prepared for myriad contingencies of backcountry biking.  When Thigpen arrived in Antelope Wells, New Mexico, he had conquered the impossible and became the first Alabamian to complete this grueling mountain bike competition.

Join us, along with the Rocket City Cycle Belles, as we welcome Scott Thigpen to Bicycle Cove on Friday, August 30 at 6:30 p.m. to share his Tour Divide experience through a multimedia presentation.  Food and drink will be provided!
